Wait Until Q2 for 'Devils Canyon' Or Jump on Haswell

Thread Starter
Hey guys. Currently i have an AMD Athlon X4 760K @ 4.5Ghz and it gives me FPs drops in games. I was going to go for a 4670k and Overclock it ( I love overclocking tongue.gif) but after seeing the threads where some failed at very high Vcore and low clock with ENORMOUS heat i was kinda worried. Will the 'Improved TIM' on 'devils canyon' be worth the little wait for an overclocker like me? I was going to wait til late April anyway to get Haswell so a month cant really hurt can it?

If you love overclocking and don't wish to delid, I say go for Devils Canyon. If you wish to delid or won't mind being stuck between 4.4-4.6ghz, I say go Haswell thumb.gif

Even a lower than average haswell will give more than enough cpu power for consistent fps in games. 4670k is actually very strong even at stock clocks.

The jump between your CPU and the current Haswell is monumental compared to the jump between more "potential" over clocking headroom on the current Haswell versus the new one. I'd say if you have the money and are ready to go then get the current Haswell. If you are looking to get the absolute most out of your money and are willing to wait a few months then wait. Unless you are an enthusiast over clocker, you won't notice much difference. Most gamers fiddle with the over clock for a few hours and then get back to gaming. Is it worth several months of stutters for a few 100mhz more OC?

I do not expect any iteration of intel to ever guarantee the kind of overclocking headroom we saw on ivy/sandy again. After haswell they have no reason to change unless competition drives it. At least on the mainstrean cpus anyway.

I would buy haswell now. If you want the new one later on its simple. A 4670k can bring $180 on the marketplace. Oh wait it will be the old one then you say?

The old one now 3570k can also still fetch $180. They hold value very well.

Maybe if they improve the cooling between the die and the ihs yes

Just get a 4670k or 3570k if you can find one cheaper and a decent board. It will be a night and day difference and you'll get 4.2-4.4 for sure.
