Playstation has Gran Turismo. Xbox has Forza. What does PC have? - Page 3

I've found that games such as GT and Forza that do well on consoles aren't really in huge demand for the PC market. You wont really find a game at least not in the last 10 years where you progress through multiple type of series in one package. Most of the games that are popular on PC's are the ones that usually follow a single series. A game that is all about either Formula 1, or WRC etc.

There are racing simulators which allow for mods and then that opens up a huge amount of racing seasons of different type of racing. Again though none of that arcade type gameplay where you get money for wining races to "hook up" your car and race it some more. So rFactor is that type of simulator, and it's a hard game to master, but there are many difficulty settings and driving aids that can help you out. I find that most people who love Forza and GT don't usually end up liking simulators.

Pretty much this, although I think the demand for a wider variety of car series is increasing, hence Asseto Corsa and Project C.A.R.S. They seem like they'll be the best of both worlds.

A lot of the games you guys mentioned don't offer things like min-games for drifting, rallying, skill challenges, and so on. You either have a 100% rally game or 100% track game or etc etc.
Nor do any of these games allow the player to use/purchase regular production cars and modify them (whether performance-wise or aesthetically)
It really sucks for us who want an all-on-one type of racing game similar to the GT or Forza series.
It seems like the PC gaming market is not as popular as it was 5 or 10 years ago. The only things I see game developers/designers/producers complaining about is a lack of interest for PC games and piracy. The former I doubt is true and the latter is nearly impossible to prevent haha

speaking of which, by all accounts AC is intended to fully support the mod community; i would anticipate it becoming this generations rfactor.

shift tried to do the forza thing but its terrible (at least shift 2 is). the reason we arent seeing these titles on PC is simply due to sony & microsoft wanting them exclusive to their consoles, & the only third party whos tried to make such a game for PC was EA, who flocks everything up..

You can choose regular production cars in Assetto Corsa and Project C.A.R.S. and customize them performance-wise, with far more in-depth performance tuning than Gran Turismo and Forza. As for buying the cars, I know Assetto Corsa will have a career mode at release so it will probably be similar to what we get in Forza/Gran Turismo.

Both Assetto Corsa and Project C.A.R.S. will be the only all-in-one racing simulators. Forza/GT aren't racing simulators really, they're driving simulators. The closest thing they have to racing simulator aspects is GT5's endurance racing mode.

PC gaming is much more popular than it was 5 years ago. At this rate, I figured it was only a matter of time before we see racing games mix in elements from Forza/Gran Turismo (production car selection) and from real racing simulators. I'm glad we're finally seeing that. It looks like Project C.A.R.S. and Assetto Corsa will be close to what I've always wanted from a racing game. I just hope they end up with a very vast selection of cars, especially on the production side of things. Project C.A.R.S. has confirmed quite a lot.

There's also the fact that Slightly Mad Studios have acquired the services of Ben Collins and Nicolas Hamilton, both pro racing drivers, to help them with the development of the game. There's two big threads on the WMD forum with all of their highly detailed and honest feedback throughout the development. If they say something's realistic, I'm inclined to believe them.

Here's an example of said feedback: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Forgot to respond to this... how's this for a testimonial?

I race in real life and I don't find anyone sim to have an 'enormous' or vast gap over the other... I jumped from Gran Turismo to GTR2 and came in second on my first race, there was no learning curve AT ALL.

Otherwise, you'll find actual racing sims on PC like GTR 2, F1 series, and iRacing, but they're limited to a specific selection of car classes and they're strictly racing simulators, not loose driving simulators like Forza/GT.

Are you just saying that because 'PC vs Console'?

This is what I'm thinking. I have forza 5 and assetto corsa both played with FFB wheels and I'd put money down you cant tell the difference in physics. Assetto corsa feels like a less refined version of forza 5. and unless you have tried both with ffb wheels, I'm going to discredit your asumption. As for racing sim, forza isnt quite thete with things like fuel and tire consumption yet but the overall feel of the physics is the same.

^ I haven't played Forza 5 yet, only 4. I wonder how far ahead Forza 5 is compared to Gran Turismo 6. Is Forza 5 still far too forgiving when your car touches the grass?

There is more to a racing simulator than just driving physics too. Forza/GT are driving simulators, not full fledged racing simulators.

Yeah I posted my thoughts on AC in another thread, feels very Forza-ish to me as well. The physics are very good but I feel it's tailored slightly towards a more casual racing sim fan. Cars on the whole are very forgiving, easy to get even formula cars to 9-10/10ths within a couple laps, oversteer is so progressive and predictable you would think you're driving a 240sx.
