Noob needs help! I have 5x 60gb ssd drives that I want to consolidate.

So I just received 5 Kingston 60gb SSD drives... Long story short, they were about to be thrown out so I hopped all over it. I know a small amount about raid and the different configs.

I just want to consolidate the 5 SSD drives into one 300gb drive. Problem is, I only have one internal 6gb sata slot left. 3 are occupied by my OS ssd drive and a gaming/programs ssd drive and 1 2tb storage hdd.

I have 4 other internal sata slots on my motherboard, but they are all sata ii(3gb). My problem could be easily solved if performance between the two sata ii vs sata iii is moot. Is there a cheap simple way to get all 5 ssd drives connected internally and without looking too terrible? I've looked at controllers, but it starts to cost 80+ dollars if you want to connect more than 2-4+ Sata cables. Enclosures are super pricey as well.

I have a asus rampage iv extreme. It has several sata ports externally... But I want everything inside.

Sounds like you could do four of them on the Marvel ports... but there is no way to mix and match between the marvel and Intel ports...

You are right about the raid cards... a decent one with a SAS connector will run you $100 up... and up is better.

I'd just sell them all and get a single drive

You can't RAID drives on separate controllers can you? If not I'd start by filling up the SATA II slots with 4 of them and RAID that. Use the last on your last slot and RAID it with one of the other SSDs..or RAID them all together. You'd end up with 3 drives total. Or you could use it to cache the mechanical drive.

You could also get a usb 3 or eSATA enclosure for the last one and have a really fast external drive thumb.gif USB 3 ones aren't that expensive, not sure about eSATA though.

Thanks guys. All great options, but I'm thinking maybe selling the whole bunch for cheap would be more worthwhile than incurring cost to fully utilize the ssds. I'll definitely plug the four on the marvel ports just to play with it and see if I like it, but most likely I'll end up selling them to save money for some other gadget... Like the oculus dev kit 2...
