Build for a 11 year old

Thread Starter
My 11 year old brother recently came into a nice stack of cash.. he had surgery and my parents aflec policy paid out a nice chunk. He's been begging for his own gaming rig since I moved out with mine. Parents told me they have about $750 to spend.

I would like to get him something pretty nice, he said he wants a blue/black but open to anything.

I really am not sure how to spec this out, he will have my old 1080p monitor, he does not need anything bleeding edge which leaves me wondering what parts are enough.. I typically have bought much higher end parts but rarely do budget builds.

I was thinking a fx 8350, samsung 840 evo, 8gb ram, 450 watt psu and something like a gtx 750 ti? I really want the machine to be snappy for him and my parents will probably use it too. I would probably put a 500gb storage drive in it for them too, we are near a microcenter if anyone can link me some pc part pickers i'd appreciate it. Semi modular psu would be nice.

if u guys can pick out the main components to get it going that would be great, we already have spare mechanical keyboards and mice, monitors so thats no issue.
i would go with a 4670k and a decent $150 price range mobo for the build, performance should be better while only being slightly more expensive, but since microcenter is an option, the price shouldnt be much different really.

not sure what he plays but an i3 would probably be perfect with a 750ti. 8350 is a waste for that build. you can get an i3 with a board for almost the price of just the 8350.

Typical games played are
Minecraft
Rift
BF3
Plants Vs Zombies Garden Warfare

Usually its just minecraft though.. he has expressed interest in a couple mmo's but I try to shy him away from them since i feel like it wasted away my childhood. (I got hooked playing everquest 2 from 2005-2010)

I'm up for anything.. he just wants to be able to have his own machine and my parents need a computer too since i took mine out of the house when i moved out

Minecraft and MMO's, he'll want Intel man. Since MC is an option, i'd also say shoot for a 4670k + half decent board. Instead of a 750Ti, try to find a last gen card that's faster like a GTX 670 or 7950 / 7970. PSU, Rosewill Capstone is always a favorite of mine (you said you needed modular).

modular not required but it would be nicer overall for the build, were thinking of getting the corsair spec cases too since he thought they looked awesome, would require a matx board but that can do np.

thanks for all the tips

Agreed. I would not even bother with FX for a build like this. It would only add headaches with overclocking, stability, and power usage.

maximus gene will be overkill, a 4670K might also lead to something broken.

I would go with a faster i3, and a new gen card like a 270X - 280X just for BF4 purposes, everything else should be easy enough to run.

There are cheaper 270x, this was just a brand preference pick.
