When I tried the gtx 760 it wouldn't do anything so I read and people said update the bios which I did then it wouldn't boot turned out I had to switch the bios setting to ahci. But I messed up the boot files so I reinstalled windows and up and running with the old 280. Still the 760 doesn't boot up. I returned it and got the R7 260x and it does the same only there ain't no activity light. At least the 760 it actually sounded like the pc was doing something but it was froze with the startup screen where it shows f12 for boot options or del for bios.

Should I update my bios to the uefi I believe it was? The one for windows 8 which I don't have just to see if that would work?

I think you should update to the newest BIOS. The other one is fom 2012... However that "for Windows 8" makes me a bit unsure although it should work fine with Windows 7. AFAIK the BIOS cant limit a machine to only utilize one specific OS.

If after the update your GPU still does not work you'll need a new motherboard and OS to go with it...redface.gif

I can always downgrade the bios if it doesn't work right? Or would it be better just to buy the gpu which came with my pc and leave it at that?

The one that came shipped with my pc was the Radeon hd 7770. The 7950 looks like its a bit better just wondering if that would work. Tired of trying to update things wished I could just plug in and play.

If the flash does not work then you will have to replace the BIOS chip. So no, you cant downgrade if it doesn't work...

The reason why the cards don't work is probably the too old bios version which does not support the newer cards.

If I were you I'd just flash the bios. If it doesn't work I'd get a new mobo.

What do I look for when buying a new better mobo? Since I'm just upgrading I'd rather just buy it then go through with updating the bios and ruin the computer.
