[digitimes] TSMC 20nm wafer production delayed temporarily, but will not affect shipments

Quote:
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has confirmed that its 20nm wafer starts were delayed recently due to a specification issue of materials used in its CMP (chemical mechanical planarization) process. The issue has been resolved, and no shipments will be delayed, said the wafer foundry house.
Quote:
TSMC began volume production of its 20nm process node at the beginning of 2014, focusing on Apple's A8 processors, according to industry sources.

So we see where the volume of 20nm is going.

More proof that GPUs are out between Summer and the Holidays. Sure it takes a little to perfect but until the end of Summer plenty of time, let alone needing time to improve yields was always routine to foundries.

Whoever buys anything now is foolish, unless they need it immediately.

Let alone Intel may go 14nm by then.

Yeah sounds reasonable. In any case they will have to reach the Holiday season with it because with a refresh of a refresh I don't see them doing anything.

Unless there is doom they can't predict in manufacturing but I doubt it.

Most of the naysayers are likely competitors or their own trying to sell old products.

Can we get these in mobile SKUs ASAP?

Looking to get a notebook in the summer, and while I know Broadwell won't work for that timeframe, hopefully Maxwell will.

Why is pretty much every complex structure trans fab delaying? Intel delays, then GloFo, and now TSMC? Man this is brutal.

Even if it's 28nm I'll get at least one 880 classified card for benching, then wait for the big fat daddy 980 kingpin tongue.gif

Like 2 years away. On the other hand, your GM104 is probably 6-8 months away.

Also, I'm actually kinda stoked to hear these 20nm chips are going to Apple, because the iPhone 6 will be my next phone biggrin.gif
