So I've been on a long break from OCN and computer hardware in general because I've been busy.
Still pretty busy actually, but I don't want to get too out of touch with whats going on.

I asked this question in my build log but I figured this forum would be a good place to ask as well.

My 7970 has been sitting in my watercooled rig, running on air. I kept putting it off and now it is a full year later, the R290 has been around for a bit, and my 7970 is still sitting in its stock form.

What to do?
The poll lists my 3 ideas right now:
  • Watercool the 7970, and basically leave it alone for another two years:
2 years is probably optimistic, but I don't need to run things at the highest settings (except resolution, I cant stand non-native resolution), and honestly the R290 doesn't even tempt me to upgrade at all.
  • Watercool and crossfire the 7970:
This would be pretty expensive and probably not worth it right? I do have a EVGA 1300 G2 though, so the rest of my system can handle the load. Triple 180mm radiator should do fine as well, but I have space for another 120mm rad if necessary. Although since the cost is so high with this route, I might end up not watercooling it either... which would be bad.. damnit.
  • Leave the 7970 alone and see what the next generation brings along:
What I really want in a new graphics card is more memory. I run all of my games at my monitor's native 2560x1440 resolution so memory is a big issue. As fast as the R290 seems, I don't think it'd make much difference for me since the memory quantity hasnt increased much (4GB vs my current 3GB). And I do want to grab a 4k monitor when they drop to a more resonable price range (500-700) with 60hz at 4k. So yea, more memory please.
