Exactly this! I don't give a crap about any reviewer's opinion about any game, only judge the game if you've already played it.

Far Cry 1 was a masterpiece
Far Cry 2 was one of the most boring games I ever played but looked good
Far Cry 3 was a GREAT experience with great characters. Not tooo repetitive.

I have high hopes on Far Cry 4.

I'm only about half way through Far Cry 3 right now and already this is one of my favorite games of all time!

I run two 7950s in cross fire with no problems or stuttering of any kind.

I don't often buy games right when they come out, but for Far Cry 4 I most likely will.

far cry 1 was the most epic one. it is true that the second part was a bit stupid and that is because they rushed to release it.

Spare me all this drivel about Far Cry 3's story. Far Cry's story may have been weak (although it certainly made up for it elsewhere), but Far Cry 3's was painfully bad. That is, I found myself actually feeling embarrassed on it's behalf. It's like a 13 year old school kid's fantasy - drugs and sex clumsily thrown in, in a futile attempt to lend the game some maturity, along with the terrible brostep score (One of the few games I've played where I've been compelled to turn off the music altogether).

I'm sick of this reluctant hero bollocks too. Is this some kind of weak attempt to justify the inevitably unreasonable video game body count? "Oh, he didn't want to kill, he was forced into it..." This doesn't make the carnage to come any more plausible. All this means is that we have to listen to a bunch of contrived whining and moaning from the protagonist for the first 15 minutes of the game, following which he spontaneously becomes an expert in weapon handling and proceeds to kill with reckless abandon. In the end it would have been less absurd if they'd taken the classic 'hero is conveniently ex-military' route. Far Cry 3 made me feel more inclined to kill Jason Brody than the damned enemies. Comparing far Cry 3 to the more conventional FPS approach taken in Crysis, who would I rather play as? The elite soldier, or pathetic, drug addled Jersey Shore muppet? Hmm, that's a tough choice... rolleyes.gif

I have to admit that for me, on a few occasions, Far Cry 3 somehow managed to capture a bit of the original Far Cry 'feeling', but it never held it for long, and the game is but a shadow of what Far Cry was in 2004. Plus the countless games in the past, and no I'm not going to look up old games I've played cause it's a lost cause, that have had terrible character backgrounds but are known as classics. I already named one, in which is thought of as Legendary.

The game also had the fakest fake German accent I've heard in a long time. Whatever points it might have gained from the competent Vaas voice talent, it loses for the terrible German and New Zealand (?) NPC voicing.

Obviously don't like Zombie Strippers yet that was hilarious and fun. To point out story flaws then, how did Gordon Freeman go from scientist to gun expert in the flip of a switch? Or the story of all times, Tomb Raider the reboot. You go from a chick who studies dig sites to being able to re-build guns with better parts. Without any training or proper tools, WHA!?

So yeah elements are obviously missing but really, it's a game. You think that as a gamer, you want to go through every painstaking action involved in learning to be a killer? Really? REALLY? Go play an RPG, I just want to shoot and kill in a game like FC3. SHOOT AND KILL!!!! The story clips were just too fun to watch.

Hmm. A 7970 should be able to run FC3 well. I have a 290 which is not that much stronger and it runs FC3 at 1440p with most settings maxed at a constant 60fps.

There is a macro stutter issue but you fix that by turning on Frame Buffer to 1 frame (any more is too resource intensive). You may have mistaken that issue for your gpu being too weak?

Did you even read the damned post? That was exactly the point I was making. And I was speaking just as much of Tomb Raider as I was of Far Cry 3, when I said that I was sick of the 'reluctant hero' routine. I wasn't saying I wanted more of that crap, I was saying there is too much already.

I'm so sick of having my own arguments reworded and spat back at me on these boards by people who think they're 'on to something'.

He's not a reluctant hero, if you thought that you missed the point. Like I said earlier, he's an everyman who's thrust into a violent world. And he likes it. What did you think all those conversations with Liza were all about? Or why you get to choose your ending?

No, it's not that he's reluctant, but that the game tries to explain your entry into this world and your progress through it. You're wrong to say there is too much of this already, name a shooter where you are a weakling to start and the game story and mechanics reflect that. In every other game, you are either a killer to start with but are handicapped by weak weapons (Bioshock), or you're a lamb who without explanation is awesome at killing (Half Life series). FC3 may not be wholly original, and I'm not saying it was done as well as it could have been, but this notion that this is something there is too much of is just wrong. You see it all the time in rpgs, where you start as Frodo and become godlike. But in shooters and action titles, this is fairly novel.

That's the point. What do you expect from a story? I've read so much as a child, I got into story theory. How many true stories can you do? What are the basics? They have branched off but honestly, what is left? It's a game, so play it as such. You aren't reading a novel, watching a mini series, or a full blown show with background. It's ment to be compressed, and quickly. Do you want to go through shooting crapily, learning how to handle a pistol or a rifle. To kill with a knife. Do you know on hand to hand, if you are fighting a person armed with a pistol that you want to grab the gun and actually pull it across. Yeah, that's right, you pull the gun across you and use your other hand on the inner arm. Why? Because that's how our grip works, we are weaker towards gripping a weapon if the object is pulled across our body.

Example, if you are right handed I want to use my right arm to hit your inner arm, towards the wrist and then pull the gun with my left across my body. This forces you to release your grip, disarming 101. Do you want to do that? Or how to handle recoil, you want to go through all that? No, it's an FPS where skipping that and going right into gun fights is the big thing. Because you shouldn't care about that, if you do play an RPG. It's an FPS with RPG elements. So yeah, you are just nit picking bull.
