You see, I do know how to look at a film. I've watched the films most films these days are based on, and listened to commentary by the directors of those semi-original sources. I have studied cinematography. I've taken acting classes, and have been both on stage and behind it. I do know what I'm complaining about, and complacent, poorly done martial arts in a poorly paced movie should be called out for what it is, in order to prevent other directors from following suit.

And yet the one credential you lack is the one thing you're complaining about: martial arts. After nearly a decade of Karate and now several years of Tai Chi I can honestly say I couldn't care less and you complaining about Jackie Chan is ridiculous. That man is a master, I wish I had his skill and training.

There are people who are far superior to him but they are relatively rare. Jackie Chan, Mark Dacascos, Jet Li, Stephen Chow (Kung Fu Hustle), Wah Yuen (disciple of Bruce Lee and killed thrice in Enter The Dragon, also starred in Kung Fu Hustle),Chuck Norris (he roundhouse kicked the universe into existence), Dolph Lundgren and even Jean-Claude Van Damme are true experts in their fields. The great Toshiro Mifune was a true Samurai, not in the least because he was in the Japanese army when all soldiers were required to be Samurai.

I was going to post something but really, it isn't worth it. Master of the Flying Guillotine came to mind as a good example of poor martial arts, admit it, some of those scenes are just pure made up muck. Somebody who studies aught to know, as well as some of that isn't ment to be taken seriously. So when I read the line "it is Bruce Lee or go home" I knew he wasn't a true fan of martial arts movies. Five Deadly Venoms? Had friends who owned almost every movie out of China and the surrounding. We'd just sit and watch them one after another, it passed the time years ago. - Note: Not mocking you or anything, just saying you probably know how bad some of the martial arts is/was in those classics. Despite that, those movies are amazing.

Who said I lack martial arts credentials? Why did you leave out Bolo Yeung? Also I never complained about Jackie Chan. I stated a personal preference. Why is my personal preference so offensive to you?

I have a friend and what he does is he watches a film and he then picks out all the mistakes and puts them online. He always tries to point them out to me but I just don't care. I don't care if there's a car driving through Hobbiton while they were filming simply because it's not obvious and it doesn't detract from the story or film itself. If I want to watch a film like that I'll watch The Party by Peter Sellers.

Edit: There have been times in which I just couldn't watch a film due to the martial arts being so bad they made me cringe but then it's not only the martial arts that's bad. However, even the martial arts scenes in the Matrix were pretty good and Keanu wasn't too bad, considering they only had six months training so who cares? You want to watch great martial arts films? I'll send you a video of my master's master performing Tai Chi, there are no better films biggrin.gif

I guess this means every fight scene is gonna be a shaky cam blur fest. rolleyes.gif

There shouldn't be any extended hand to hand anyway. I hope there isn't.
