[EVGA] Step-up your GTX 780 to 6GB Update: 6GB GTX 780 Ti cancelled. - Page 41

I think I'll use the opportunity to move to a TI, and up to 6GB as I plan on 2 additional IPS panels in the future smile.gif.

Now here we are 3-4months later and we have 6gb versions... and of course my 2 780Ti's were purchased on day-one back in November so I don't qualify for this step-up program. rolleyes.gifmad.gif

I think EVGA really is aware of that which is why they changed the rules of the step up program for this card only.

EVGA makes no money on step-ups. We send them cards that can only be sold as used for brand new ones.

I'm stuck with 2 3gb cards as well. But I don't think newer games are going to be as silly with vram as Titanfall.

The vast majority of cards sold are in the $150 range and still only have 1.5-2.0 GB. Since they literally make up the market themselves, games will never get too far out of whack IMO.

Sucks if I'm wrong though. biggrin.gif

Jacob, is it still the case that you have to apply for an extended warranty in order to apply for step up?

You're not wrong. People looking at their monitoring software and saying they're using VRAM is a very backwards way of deciphering how much VRAM your card is using at any point. As I said in an other post, if a game is fairly VRAM intensive, or if the developer has chosen to let the game cache, it's up to the developers to decide as and when the game releases VRAM when it needs it. Just because the buffer on your 3GB card appears full in games like Titanfall is not a valid indication that the game is using all of it. If you play Titanfall on a Titan or a card with more VRAM, you may find it will us up to 3.5-4gb+ in the same scenario.

3GB will be adiquate for 1080 > 1440P. Anything above that and you might be pushing your luck in a FEW select settings / games.

I see it all the time in any games I'm spinning around trying to shoot something. Skyrim, Metro LL etc.

I always thought it was the games themselves but it's not.

I can overclock my PB278Q to 90 before it gets wonky. It's a bit better but not much.

That's shared memory. They'll still use most of it for general purposes. Games on consoles will still be 3-4 years behind the best PCs

Hoping to see a price drop on the 770 and 780. Still debating those against 290 and 290x in performance per $$
post #408 of 1081
I really hope the GTX 780 Ti's 6GB come out within my 90 day step up period...I just spent $2200 for three EVGA 780 Ti Superclocked with ACX coolers on March 13th.

If a GTX 780 Ti 6GB edition came out just shortly after my 90 day step up program expired, I'd be really bummed. Or if we were just a week or two outside of my step up period it'd be awesome if EVGA would work out a deal with me.

Just get a 780 plain if you care so much about cost and you need performance. 770 will be really slower compared to it and 290s probably can't beat it.

If you want to have fun, get an external cooler as well from Arctic and try to get one that supports some higher clocking.

I'd probably get that if I had to get something now, but I'm waiting a few months since I don't care much about perf.

Almost guaranteed, with their announcement that it is in fact forthcomming, if you called customer support they would work with you in getting the step-up process going and having you covered whenever it releases.
