When you connect speakers through monitor headphone jack - are you getting soundcard or onboard sound?

I have 2 creative speakers connected to my monitor headphone jack (VG248QE displayport to get audio from computer).

My headset currently occupies the plugs for the speakers plugs which is why I had to do this.

I am wondering if I am getting onboard or sound card quality sound?

I have a Xonar DX? Onboard is some sort of Realtek thing which I have disabled.

Does that mean the audio is being rerouted through my Xonar DX for soundcard quality?

I think that you're getting audio from the video card. Open a driver installer and choose the Custom install. Look through the list and you'll find audio drivers. You might also see devices listed in Device Manager.

Either way, you'll guarantee the best sound quality by connecting the speakers directly to the sound card. Find a way to do it if you can't. Get an extension cable if you have to.

I recommend looking for some kind of device (ask in a new thread) that plugs into the one and only Out port on the sound card and has outputs for both speakers and headphones.
