I guess I have to still stick with air cooling or get some sort of really good water cooling with one rad.

I was just over to the CM Hyper 212 thread (my cheap cooler), and heres one guy who replaced his H60 with a CM Hyper 212 :
Quote:
Picked up a Hyper 212X since I had to RMA my H60 v2 and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be selling the replacement anyway. Man, this thing is crazy! Same ambient temps, 2500K @ 4.3, and my temps dont go over 61-63c on Prime95. I was getting about 73-76c with the H60. Why didn't I get this earlier?! rolleyes.gif And I even sorta F'ed up the TIM installation since I accidentally applied about 3-4x more than whats needed, but was too lazy to clean it off and reapply all over again.

The H60 is pretty poor, it doesnt have much radiator to it.

I wouldnt put my Hyper 212 on a FX-9590 either. I think at stock speeds and at load, the FX-9590 would get close to 70C even with the second fan on it like I have.

I think your best bet is to get a Noctua D14, but theyre pricey. The cheapest minimal option IMO would be that AC Extreme with two additional fans strapped on it with electrical wire ties (and rubber pieces on the edge of the fans to prevent rattling).

Another cheap option which Ive been looking at for myself is the Deepcool Gamestorm Lucifer. http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/gamer_storm_lucifer/
Unfortunately it looks like its only available in England for right now.

Try to get the H80. The H60 might cut it, but you will end up in dangerous territories often. There are other AIO CLCs you can get, but I only have experience from my H100. If you need to get another case, please be careful of what you get. An example would be my Corsair Carbide 350D. It has a 240mm mount on the top, but the 8pin power to the motherboard is too high, and the case doesn't give enough room between the board and the top vent, so I had to end up only using one fan until I found a 90° adapter for it.

Also, MineCraft only uses one thread (unless they changed that recently) so you will only be using one core. The game is not graphically demanding at all.

And everyone asking about performance, take the 8320/8350 and overclock it to 4.7GHz/5.0GHz turbo.

EDIT: If you have to get the H60, buy upgraded fans for it. It may be the only way for the chip to survive. Of course, if you need to for now, you can under clock your chip. I have my 8350 @ 22x with 1.3875v. I'm using the Sabertooth as well (R 1.0 though)

Yeah the noctua ia 70 dollars at my local computer shop,I could try strapping on a computer fan on the other side. I was also thinking of putting a fan of the back too which is close to the heats ink for the cpu and then get a fan for the panel on the side. the case is a cool master K350, just a small mid tower and I can only put 120mm fans into. But I can put 3 more fans into it and maybe under clock it for now, maybe around 4.6ghz

hmm, that's an idea, I could grab a H60 and grab a new fan for it, maybe over clock the fans RIM a little to help? I also could grab a new case, maybe a full tower possibly and put in a monster cooler in there but I'm tapped for cash unfortantly atm frown.gif. I posted a photo In reply to cpmee of my computer and what I have to work with for cooling. The cooler I have right now I it's so tight at the top I can barely plug in the power for the ATX, and you also posted about choosing cases carefully and I'm running into that problem a bit lol

And yeah im not sure about how many cores minecraft runs but if it were to be 1 core I guess that is pretty good for this cpu running it at decent frame rates. tongue.gif

yeah minecraft uses 1 core unless your running a mod like optifine or something that moves particle effects to a different core

1. You will probably need to run two expensive fans on push/pull configuration to make this work
2. I've seen the 400R, as well as my 300R. I believe the 450R has enough room in it. If not, the 600T can work. If you can go as expensive... maybe your store has a 650D open box.
3. I'm not that great with computer cases unfortunately, but if needed, i can try to find one of those 90° adapters.

Finally I'd like to say, if you ever need help and you're not getting it, send me a PM. I remember when I was in your position. I am still subscribed to this thread, so don't worry if I don't respond right away. I'll come back thumb.gif

I think optifine allows a second core to assist with chunk loading. All the script/AI/etc still runs on the first. I think the real benefit is allowing faster loading of chunks.

Please note that I said 350D in previous posts. I meant 300R. The 'R' series is Carbide. The 'D' series is Obsidian.

Don't waste your time on the H60 man, it's pretty much useless for a performance CPU. I wen't through this about a month ago and switched back to my 212 Evo in less than a day.

CPU-FX-6300 @ 4.5Ghz on stock voltage (1.36) Turbo off, C1E off, CNQ off. MAX CORE TEMP 62c

212 Evo Push Pull 2X Sickleflow 120's w/ AS5 paste (26c ambient) 30c Idle/ 52c after 1 Hour prime small FFT

H60 stock fan/stock paste (26c ambient) 33c idle/ 62c+ after 5 minutes prime small FFT- Thermal runaway

H60 stock fan/AS5 (26c ambient) 31c idle/ 62c+ after 5 min prime small FFT-Thermal runaway

H60 Sickleflow 120/ AS5 (26c ambient) 31c idle /62c+ after 10 min prime small FFT-Thermal runaway

H60 Sickleflow 120 Push Pull/ AS5 (26c ambient) 30c idle/ 62C+ after 10 min prime small FFT-Thermal runaway

These are my testing results of the H60. As you can see i tried all kinds of different configurations to make it work and it couldn't do it. And this is on a chip that runs under stock voltage too !

* all of the installs are fresh so the cure time on AS5 has no bearing on results

I really don't know much about coolers other than my limited experience. What would you suggest he does for now? I mean, no doubt he will need a top notch AIO at least, but what about for the time being?

I would say grab a H60 and upgraded fans, and down clock your chip a little.

Really ?? an H60 with high performance fans and AS5 couldnt even keep my undervolted 6300 cool, you think it will hack it on a 9590 ?

Id say save the cash on the H60 since it is an utter waste of material, de-active 1 module (2 cores) clock it low 3Ghz ish and under volt it as low as possible and you might have a chance on the stock cooler until you can get something fitting. H100i+

Alright, didn't know it would be that bad. We also don't know a few things about the OP, like his ambient and usual works loads he has. Although, having a 6300 underclocked and still hitting 65°C sounds like something is wrong. Although you do have it at 4.5GHz. I don't know if going to 3GHz is necessary, these chips are binned higher, so they require less V and put out less heat than a 83X0. He could try putting multi to 22 and VCore to 1.375 and see if he can stay at good temperatures.
