what i want to get from it is:
1080p or more
that i can play with a controller while i get the hang of the mouse and keyboard
power and smooth
as you can see i don't know much biggrin.gif

The first thing we need from you is a budget, that will have a fairly large impact on the system build.

For 1080 gaming I would say bang for the buck is an i5 (yes an AMD FX can do the job too but the motherboard selection for the Intel is much better) and then grab an R9 270X or 280X, either will do a great j9ob at 1080 with pretty much every game on high. Put in 8 gig for memory and a good 650 watt PSU and you should be set.

For storage it depends on the way you use your PC. If you tend to play only a few games at a time and do not hoard music or videos on the computer then I would just get a good 240 gig SSD. The Crucial 500 is around $120 right now in many places for a 240 gig, a real steal. Not the fastest SSD but a ton faster than any spindle drive. If you need more space I would just buy a spindle drive to use for extra storage and put your primary games and OS on the SSD.

Bang for the buck this type of a system is a BRUTE and will give you an amazing gaming experience.

the thing is I'm ditching the xbox...budget can be around $1000
i reading a lot of overclocking, and 1440p and I'm thinking to my self, wow that would be nice to have, plus the games

Depends on:

1) budget
2) what games you play
3) preference (do you care how big, what it looks like, brands)
4) Do you have a monitor, keyboard/mouse, an operating system to install (or do you need to buy windows)?
5) Are you ready to be your own tech support?

5 is important. You say you dont know anything about this stuff...if thats the case you either need to learn or pay someone (be it a company or a person) to build and maintain it for you. Start googling and read up, plenty of guides and information out there. We can help choose parts and give suggestions, we cant teach you though.

pretty sure 1440p is going to cut your budget in half?

CPU and SSD is good.
780 can be cut down to a 770 or AMD equiv
Motherboard, maybe get a z87x like the Gigabyte z87x-D3H
Ram is okay as long as its 2x4GB 1600. Not much point going higher unless it's like $10 difference
h100i for CPU cooling is a no-no. Save the money and get a Cooler master 212 variant. You can even stay on the stock Intel cooler if you want.
Have to check the PSU if that series has anything wrong with it, otherwise a 650w Gold is okay.

If he is considering 1440P, I suggest he NOT go to the 770. There are plenty of games that will put the hurt on a single 780 at 1080P.
