I feel like gaming is getting ...... - Page 5

If your sick of games made for everybody from age 15-99, with word "casual" all over them, I would recommend you try some of this titles, 2 in playable versions and one in alpha:

1) Dwarf fortress
Absolutely nothing casual there, simply hours of fun, fun and fun till it ends in FUN.

2) Project Zomboid
Moment you become casual in game you die...

3) David Braben Elite Dangerous
Space sim like Star Citizen with differance this one will be finished while Star Citizen most likely will be flop and biggest player cry since Duke Nukem sequel sad story.

With the rapid development of technology, some developers and publishers want to showcase how impressive their game's engine is, even if it is at the compromise of writing a good story or employing interesting characters.

A game that looks great would probably be easier to sell than one that has an amazing story (from a business perspective anyway).

I disagree. There are still a lot of good games out there, you just have to stay away from the most popular stuff.

Path Of Exile, best ARPG i ever played. I never really got into diablo 2 but PoE instantly grabbed me.
Batman: arkham city i'm playing through the latest 2 weeks and it's another great game, not something to play for 100+ hours but those 21 hours i now played it have been very enjoyable.
Far Cry 3: Blood dragon, has the quite boring ubisoft feel to it (the way sidemissions work), but the ridiculous story, fast running and the amazing ending still make it a very enjoyable (but short) game.
Sleeping Dogs, another great game, fantastic graphics, great story, fun fighting mechanics.

In my steam library but haven't had time yet to play:
Metro 2033
Metro: last light
Dishonored
Shadow warrior
Far Cry 3

Haven't played yet but they all look pretty good.

And then on the f2p/multiplayer side there is DotA 2 which i almost never play anymore but very enjoyable to watch competitive games of.
And World Of Tanks is also pretty good although the grind is imo way over the top.

Triple A games have mostly become formulaic in that studio's bend to the whip of the distributors and big investors. Games molded by corporate suits who know nothing about gaming except the bottom line. I find myself playing and enjoying indie games more than big budget games. Playing indie's till the "latest and greatest" triple A games and all their dlc go on sale for $10 bucks or less works fine for me. Maybe I'm getting older and don't care about having a triple A game as soon as it's released. If the gaming community could take a page from the beer drinkers in the US and go micro-brewery instead of the same old over hyped and big funded ad beer corporations than we'd start to head in the right direction.

i play the games for the multiplayer, biggest factor when i look at a game.

for me to play single player, it would have to be games like FF, watchdogs (if it was only singleplayer), GTA series, Kingdom hearts,

those kind of games.

well that's why you aren't having fun any more.. that right there is your problem. BioShock 1 has good game play and decent story. Metro 2033 has GOOD story and some nice gun play and tactic. i once shot out every single light night level just to use my nigh vision goggles to snipe every one. biggrin.gif

if you can't find a good game in there single player or other wise well then you need to reevaluate your opinions or self. biggrin.gif

The last best 3 games I played:
Southpark The Stick of Truth
Project Zomboid
Path of Exile

I find Indie games like Project Zomboid to be a lot more fun than supposedly Triple A titles made by big name studios and pushed out by publishers. The only way PC gaming will get better is innovation. The only hope I see right now for PC Gaming that will be a game changer is Oculus Rift. Price needs to go down so most people can afford it and change the way we interact and play with games. I'd love to try an Oculus Rift myself but it's just not possible.

The only other games that are mildly interesting are some games that are most likely exclusive as a console title. Still waiting for Grand Theft Auto V to release for the PC some day. Most of the MGS series has been pretty good so far and the new open world versions look really good. Other than that, most of the games that have come out look pretty stale, everything is a remix of another game. Someone already did it and they did it better.

The formula for making games has changed dramatically.

1. Make game
2. Make part 2 of game
3. Learn mistakes from part 1 of the game
4. Improve upon the existing system and add value to part 2 of the game by adding newer and better features
5. Allow the game to be moddable
6. Allow LAN play and private servers along with online play
7. Give out free content in order to increase the longevity of the game
8. Actually care about player feedback
9. Make an expansion pack actually worth buying

Today's version:

1. Make games
2. ??????
3. ??????
4. ??????
5. Profit
6. Remix game
7. Make more games
8. Sell Day One Exclusive DLC
9. Sell more exclusives
10. Push incomplete and buggy games out anyways and sell them as a complete game
11. Sell more micro-transactions
12. Remove all offline play and private servers
13. Don't make the game moddable, lock the game to proprietary tools so there's no longevity in the game
14. Pay to Win, got money? You'll always win if you just keep giving us money

I'm not gonna lie, I think Rockstar is the only one that is doing this right even though they have a big budget to work with. Every GTA was slightly better than the last GTA and some still play San Andreas and GTA IV because it's moddable. I still think the current majority of games are stale, someone already did it and they did it better. All you get is a rehash of the same old same old and no innovations or new ideas because it's already been used up. Sometimes now I just play the games if they have a good storyline or interesting characters.

Gotta disagree.
All previous GTAs supported Anti-Aliasing, yet 4 dropped support for it and SA had more to do. For example, flying planes was possible in SA, but not in 4. Gang/territory wars were pretty cool too.

GTA 4 felt pretty incomplete to me, like it was a big downgrade in many ways, even though it was one of my most played games.

im the typical asian gamer.

i dont like games that us americans are crazy over.
which are FPS games and war games. like left 4 dead, BF4, metro, farcry, dayz, world of tanks, etc etc etc.

im more into games like RTS, final fantasy, MMORPG, etc etc

i mean sure, i would play metro, bioshock and those kinds of games if it were free, for me personally, its not worth buying, but definitively worth playing if it was free.

EDIT: im starting to get the feeling that PC gamers are mostly "single player" players.

like they get the old games (when they go on sale) and play the story mode.
