I will tell you right now that when I had a job interview in Sacramento for an IT job that it was under a staffing Agency... They wanted to start me off at 12 dollars an hour AND I HAVE a degree!!

They were not clear on when the contract would be up or if I would even lad the job permanent at all.... These guys wanted to USE ME for 12 FREAKING DOLLARS an hour! I make a little over 50k a year NOT using my degree outside of the IT field... WHAT THE HELL.

This article makes complete sense to me! I bet they own Volt Staffing services too.... I would not be surprised seeing as they are always looking for tech support for apple. Those guys get paid pennies and they don't even have to know anything about apple products except for what is Taught to them in the office....

Anyways... this is crap, its going to catch up with them one way or another... I don't give a crap we could all live life like its Revolution.... I don't give a crap.... companies are sucking us dry... Gotta love new ways to of "Advanced-Slavery".

That is not really what this lawsuit is about. Its more along the lines of these companies not recruiting from each other to keep salaries down. Its more for the mid/High level management from the article, Sales guys and stuff like that. That does seem like a really bad deal for a temp job, but there is a lot of that going around for low level stuff. Of course I don't know the whole situation with you but I think because they offered you a crappy deal doesn't immediately make me think its part of this.

Back on topic, if they can prove the didn't want to poach from each other to keep wages down I agree that's an issue, but from the emails they showed it seemed a lot more like Hey your going after my top talent and were supposed to be partners, not cool. I would need to see something in writing or testimony from someone inside the corporation explicitly saying, we agreed to not actively recruit from each other to keep wages down. One of the reasons I'm not totally buying this yet is they have offered nothing saying they agree not to hire from these companies, only not actively poach. As long as somone from Dell is allowed to pursue a career at Google then I see nothing wrong.

The issue in the article doesn't really apply to you then.... they blacklisted top level talent. Someone like Google's Urs Hotzle who basically designed the world's biggest computer.... Google. The majority of Google's servers in datacenters around the world operate as one system. No one has ever done that before.... (and is crazy hard if you get into the details of it).

How much experience do you have in IT? $12 is painfully low but how much were you making before and what level were you? There are a glut of entry level workers... even in IT.

Duckie, I did not get they were blacklisting, only not actively recruiting which is completely different. I would need to see something showing blacklisting. If I was free to go talk to google about a potential job on my own then I don't see any issues with google just not actively going after me.

If they were blacklisting completely to keep wages supressed, which that article offers 0 proof of.

From what I read elsewhere (inc emails and dox), I understand what they were attempting to do and I don't believe it was intentionally with malice. At least not at first. Companies need to make it so their people won't want to leave... stopping other companies from offering better pay and/or benefits isn't the right way to do it.

Usually when a company wants better employees they'll try to recruit from another company i.e. pretty much steal employees from another company by offering them a much more lucrative income and incentives. But if companies collude together and fix salary for jobs and agree that they should not try to recruit from each other then employees get stuck at their job forever. Why move to a job to do even more work and accept more responsibility for the same amount of pay? That's what they're basically doing, keeping the employee from earning the most top dollar they can with their skills and cutting in their investors on the profit margins gained by colluding. This is pretty much illegal, so some companies seemed to have settled out of court as it is cheaper to do than battling it out in court because of legal fee costs and time.

Get the picture now? Pretty much if you're an employee of ABC company and want to work at XYZ company and you're on the blacklist they will not hire you. This makes for a less competitive job market where top dollar buys you the best employees you can get. So pretty much the companies retain the best employees for the smallest amount of pay possible. Good for the company and bad for the employee.

This is as TLDR; as I can make it.
LOL. That's a bit much for those wanting TLDR.

TL;DR: Apple (iirc) gets angry about Google poaching. Google adds them to do not poach list. List gets huge. Wages stagnate.

It's a list for recruiters not to contact certain employees so it's still a blacklist.

How do companies find experienced workers? 3rd party recruiters (aka headhunters) When you are talking about the highest levels of companies, these people don't just go out and submit resumes. They move after they talk to people and have a position waiting/made for them.

These agencies grease the wheels of larger companies by allowing these larger companies to maintain smaller HR staff and once-remove them from the process. Asking them to step out of the process is basically freezing out this process.

See i'm okay with do not poach lists, as long as there is no universal black list. Now obviously if someone did a real economic study on do not poach lists and their impacts I may change my mind. I would wager that it does slow wage growth but as long as those employees can freely pursue other employment and not get turned away i"m good.

Yes but it doesn't stop recruiters from posting opportunities and employees reaching out about them. So its not really a black list its a gray list lol.
