Be awesome if Intel went with the suffix -X, so the 4790K and 4790X would both coexist the X costing $50 to $100 more depending on how highly specific they are binned.

4790X and a Maximus 7 Extreme or Formula would grant amazing overckocking capabilities.

Wonder if Intel will set the stock clock at a nice even 4.0GHz. smile.gif
I would really doubt a stock clock would be set that high as these parts will also turbo. Isn't the current 4770 3.5 stock, 3.9 turbo?

I would guess not much higher stock clock, maybe 3.7 or 3.8, turbo to 4.1 or 4.2 by default so something a bit less than 10% improvement which isn't terrible for the same price as 4770k is today (remember, these likely will need to be able to run using same TDP/stock heatsink). Real question would be how they overclock. It would be interesting if they did go away from the onboard voltage regulators and other tweaks that would open up bigger OC gains.

I didn't bite on the first go around w/ haswell so this looks pretty appealing for what I would be upgrading from. I've considered HSW-E but I don't think I can justify the platform cost.

It would be ironic that if they are announced in June, it's exactly before it's predicted that they will announce 14nm Intel and 20nm NVIDIA/AMD to be out in October-ish.

Come to think, it's not ironic at all. That's all they do all the time.

e.g. "Titan Black! Oh wait, Titan Z!" etc.

He wasn't lying when he said they're "born every minute" I tell ya.
So that's a reason to reward intel with more money??? Marginal gains and more of our money.

That's sooo smart!!!

Whats your point? Just because Intel releases a refresh, dosnt mean you are forced to buy it wink.gif

For people that need to build a machine anyway, it's great with refreshes and new chipsets. Even tho the difference is small. But i actually need some of the features of Z97, M2 SSD fx.

And i3-4150T sounds better than i3-4130T biggrin.gif

I agree, but stop with the innovation talk. It's non-sense and if you 'need' to build a new machine, sure. But that's not the tenor of this thread now is it? There aren't that many C2D posts talking about this that I saw.

Is there any way to reserve this refresh chip?
I'm building a PC for a family member, and he wants it around mid-May.
I'm not sure if there's been updates. But this chip is expected to be released May 11th correct?

If you're talking about the unlocked K sku's (devil's canyon) it likely will be released Q3 and not with the other sku's released in may, but you should be able to pick up a non-k sku around that time. Amazon/newegg etc should have them ready to ship upon the launch.

Non-k???? I post on overclock.net for a reason tongue.gif
post #99 of 106
well...you're building for a family member so it wouldn't be unusual that he/she would never care about overclocking
post #100 of 106
What about the unlocked Pentium? May or Q3?
