FX-9370, Hyper 212 Evo, and ASrock 970 Extreme4!? - Page 2

Hey guys, I am his friend,
I don't want to get the 9370 because I want to have something better than him, I just want the newer-gen high end product possible for my $$. I told him on skype that I'll go for a 8320 and 990fx killer but I always change my opinions when it comes to my new CPU. I just to know if they will boot and work poperly. Other options would be:
1. 8350 + 990FX Extreme 3
2. 8320 + Fatal1ty 990fx Killer

The rest of the PC will be:
Seasonic S12ii 520w 80+
GTX 650Ti OC 1GB Gigabyte
4GB 1600 but will upgrade to 8 later
Zalman Z11+ Case.

Thanks.

Are you set on an asrock board?

And 650ti, do you already own this graphics card?

What do you mean? I don't care if it is asrock or Asus or gbyte etc. But it must not be more expensive than the extreme4. And I own everything I listed there. Basically, everything except CPU\mobo

My next question is do you live near a microcenter?

Alright that's fine
Okay so as far as I can see the asrock 990 extreme3 and the fatality board are both more expensive than the Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 and the Asus M5A990FX pro rev 2
Both of these boards are highly regarded in the budget range and can handle substantial overclocks, and are currently in the $130 price range in the US, vs the $140 range for the cheapest asrock.

Pick either of the two, I chose the Asus board for myself as it was the cheapest at the time and was a good deal. Many users here on overclock.net have the gigabyte board as well and speak highly of it.

I have the Extreme 4 970FX and I was going to get a 9xxx FX series chip but since reading some "reviews" saying that it does not support it I tested a chip off a nearby PC store which was the 9350 FX and the motherboard would not post with it installed. Probably because its a 4+1 Power phase board.

Well in Us I can get the 9370 and m5a99fx pro r2.0 at the same price that I can get the 8320 and m5a99fx pro here, on Romania. But anyway, I still don't have a clear answer if the 9370 will work on the extreme4 or maybe the m5a97 r2.0

From what I've seen, it may work or it may not. But it's not worth the risk.

why pay the processor premium to run stock when you can save 30-50 and get the same clocks on the same cooler with a 8350 or 8320 with just a little bit of effort.

Yep, and that 30-50 can be used to get the additional 4gb of ram. Its really best to get pairs of ram at the same time so theyre better matched.

I also just noticed something on newegg that hasnt been mentioned before, the 9XXX processors only have a 1 year warranty versus the standard 3 years on the other processors. ohno-smiley02.gif

Plus you have to define work, and for how long. On these forums, Ive read about 970 boards dieing when overclocked, but no 990 boards as of yet.

Heh, I like this, lol. tongue.gif My experience with overclocking AMDs goes back to the DX-40 days. I still have my DX-100 that I overclocked way back in time to 133 mhz in the garage along with a huge collection and range over the years of other AMD and Intel boards, heh. Since the days of jumpers, Ive never run a system at just stock clocks (exception being an Apple II serial #52 because it couldnt overclock), and so far never fried a chip. thumb.gif
