...Is my 7970 Dead? Also CCC and drivers will not install...

Anyone ever seen a GPU-Z screen like this before?

"unknown" shows up across a few relevent spots, never seen that before

also GPU clock is 0....

Card is a sapphire dual-x ref 7970, which is currently connected to a secondary monitor, monitor does not detect a signal. Card is one of two currently in my rig, first card, diamond ref 7970 reports fine and is displaying properly to first moniter.

Can anyone help me, please? redface.gif

Long story behind the current situation....

Computer has sat powered down since after christmas, there was a problem with windows that could not be resolved without a complete reinstall. Previous to christmas computer was displaying video from both cards just fine, gpuz reported all information properly, drivers installed properly and were running just fine. The machine was folding happily without any errors or problems of any kind.

I scrounged together some time of the last week to rebuild my computer components within a proper case, connected everything together as it had been previous. Booted win7 dvd, reformated ssd and reinstalled windows.

After the fresh install of win 7 and before installing AMD drivers, I installed cpuz and gpu z and found the above image when I selected the second card in the drop down menu on the bottom. I also checked device manager, under display adapters it displays a little yellow exclaimation mark and in properties says "Device cannot start. (code 10)"

I downloaded new driver package from AMD, 13-12 + CCC, I didn't have any drivers installed at this point so I figured this would fix the issue. Installed CCC and drivers, install requested a reboot. Computer booted to windows loading screen, then screen went blank.

Restarted machine, windows suggested repair install, reverted to previous image before CCC install. Now computer will start but I am back to square one...

...tried to install 13-4, black screen after boot

...tried to install drivers via device manager by targetting AMD folder, black screen after boot

...pulled diamond card, attempted to boot with only the sapphire card running in slot 1 with different psu cables, can't post, mobo hangs on "62", which is the step just before trying to load VGA

...tried to boot with bios switch set to 2. when alone, post hangs on 62, when in second pci slot, gpuz reports the same as above image

...ran SFC, returned 100% clean, no integrity violations

I am going to try flashing the bios on the card, I am hoping it is just bad, but I don't know why Bios 2 would be messed up as well IF that is the problem. Will report back shortly.

I had something like that with my 7950. I just did a fresh install and it fixed it no problem. Do another one and install the drivers first before anything else. If GPUz was installed before the drivers it could cause that crazy screen.

Edit, also, try switching the cards or disabling ULPS.

Dont flash BIOS. There is not reason to do so. If anything i would RMA the card.

Code 10 is usually hardware related. RMA it. You've done all you can do at this point in my opinion.

Thanks for your replies, your input is much appreciated biggrin.gif

Flashed the card's bios, used an updated Sapphire Dual-x bios, also used the generic ATI ghz bios. No change to gpuz results.

I will probably try to do a fresh install, but I have a feeling it won't work. I get a black screen with only the sapphire installed, meaning I cant even reinstall windows with just the sapphire installed..

I think this is quits for the card, I bought it off the market place here last year, attempting to contact the original seller to see if they can find an original reciept for me redface.gif
