It should be plenty adequate. I get about 5-10 degrees higher than that with the stock cooler. Also I know my ASUS 990FX has a second CPU fan header for coolers like that one, look into that maybe.

P.S. Good choice of CPU, I've had mine for a little over a year now and I absolutely love it. A lot of people bash both the 8-core CPU's and the 990FX chipset but I find it works superbly.

Great i didnt know exactly which fan controller to get, that looks decent as far as having more case fans/cpu fans. Also, I have never changed anything within my BIOS ever so I am fairly new to overclocking. Id like to keep things simple and not really have to over clock hence why i bought a processor with such a high capability off the bat lol. If you could direct me in what to change and how that would be awesome.

Yeah, these things are coming with far too high of a voltage for the speeds they are at. I have gotten to 4.5 and it only needs 1.36v. I would imagine the stock 1.4v would get near 5.0ghz.

Look at our 8320's thinking they are 9590's. wheee.gif ... Silly processors rolleyes.gif

Well, If you think about it, its a great cpu for the price you pay, although id like to keep it simple wiht no overclock but yet have t perform at its peek performance

I think the controller will be the best bet, also nice for future fan configs and for the control.

yea I found turbo to be weird and I disabled it.
I was thinking when I first found out that it could go up to 4.1 on 1.3 "ohman, they should of just sold this thing an an 8350"
4.5 for me need 1.416 so yours is a bit better with volts. tongue.gif 4.4 to 4.5 was my biggest voltage jump so I think it'll only increase quicker, but I'm assuming this could prolly do 5.0 with 1.5-1.55v if it had the cooling needed, but I also haven't found anything this CPU can't do even at 3.5, tongue.gif but its nice to know its there.

if you ever do OC teck or even have a question, jump in to the 83xx owners thread, you'll find lots of useful info and helpful members that are very knowledgeable thumb.gif

Alright, went into my BIOS to easier show you. Assuming we have the same BIOS interface, these pictures should be pretty much the same.

1st, Restart your computer, when it starts to power up, rapidly tap f12

2nd.
Double click or Press Enter on "Enter Setup"

3rd.
Observe what your VCore is running at. It is at the bottom of the first screen. Remember this number and tell us when you sign back in.

4th.
Navigate to "Advanced Voltage Settings" on the first screen, and double click or hit enter

5th.
Navigate to "CPU Voltage" and change the voltage from "AUTO" to "Nor". If you type that in, it will set it to Normal which is 1.375v for your cpu. This will cap your cpu to 1.375v and lower your temps.

6th. Navigate to the exit screen, (Far Right Tab) and select, "Save Settings and Exit"

Your computer will reboot and it should run cooler now.

If it does not reboot, the voltage is too low, which I guarantee will not happen. If by chance it does though.
You will need to reset the CMOS which it specifies how to in your motherboard. Just take a piece of metal and touch the two pins labeled CMOS Reset.

4.5 for me need 1.416 so yours is a bit better with volts. tongue.gif 4.4 to 4.5 was my biggest voltage jump so I think it'll only increase quicker, but I'm assuming this could prolly do 5.0 with 1.5-1.55v if it had the cooling needed, but I also haven't found anything this CPU can't do even at 3.5 haha tongue.gif

Haha I thought the same thing! 4.5 was the largest jump by far and temps made it to 58c in prime. So I "settled" with 4.4 at 1.31v and it never reaches 50 in Crysis 3 or BF3.

I know, these are pretty beastly CPU's, especially when money is factored in!

Also, I have my two CPU fans in push/pull running through the fan controller I linked. Great way to keep them quiet, or crank them up when I have my headphones in for games thumb.gif

If yours says 1.375v set it to that by typing in the numbers 1.375. If it says anything higher, still set it to 1.375. This should be lower than the voltage it was running at, in step 3.

6th. Navigate to the exit screen, (Far Right Tab) and select, "Save Settings and Exit"

.

It may be my motherboard ( gigbyte 970a-UD3P) but when I set my vcore to 1.375v, it runs at 1.375, 100% of the time as if HPC was on.
when I OC'd I used the dynamic which gives an "allowance" added onto the stock volts, so it would be "normal" in vcore and then the dynamic lights up, and then you say put, 0.075v, it would be 1.375v+ 0.075v= 1.450v. those numbers also arent taking llc into account btw, I was just giving an example of how it use it, its quite useful. tongue.gif

I was always wondering how to get dynamic unlocked! Changed that right away. Now I'm seeing it running at around 1.1v and have it set at 1.32v cap.

Thank you good sir, gave up on that setting so I kind of forgot about it haha.

Nice motherboard choice btw, 8+2 phase FTW! thumb.gif

Well my Mobo has the cpu fan and then two other fan headers that's it.

Just get a PWM fan splitter. I recently got one off amazon and right now Im using it for only 3 pin fans instead of 4, heh. The reason I got it was that it was only like 50cents more than a 3 pin fan splitter, and I liked having the 4pin PWM fan option.
On some of the PWM splitters they already cut the yellow RPM wire and on some they dont, which means youll have to cut the wire yourself otherwise it may interfere with your fan readings.
