program good for hashing and preventing hard drive errors

I have a bunch of pics and video that I keep on two back up drives. Is there a program that allows me to hash everything, save the hases and compare the drives's hashes but also to previous ones?

Thanks

Seems like an odd solution, hashes would detect a change or error but give you no real way of fixing it, it's detecting existing problems rather than preventing them. Personally I think you have nothing to worry about in regards to drive errors.

I'd say the easiest way to make sure you've always got an error free copy would be to keep more than one backup on different locations as I assume is what you have done.

Also: are these internal drives you use for "backups" or are they external or network drives?

If you use Server 2012 R2 / Win 8.1 you could maybe have a look into ReFS, it's basically NTFS but with ECC built in, it's like the next best thing if you can't use RAID. It's not a finished product by any means, but it works.

Yeah the real goal is to try and prevent errors and if any do occur, find and fix them

I have the data on two external drives. I don't really want them to be network connected since I want to avoid any malware that encrypts all your data and requires payment to unlock them
