Car Audio Question

Thread Starter
I know Home Audio is not precisely the forum for this but I couldn't find one called Car Audio smile.gif

I have a very tiny cute Nissan March (2013 also known as Micra abroad), and given that I spend usually close to 1-2 hrs in traffic everyday, I wanted to spoil myself improving the sound it produces smile.gif

I've not read much, but it appears my car can fit 6.5" speakers, so I was wondering if you had any in mind to recommend me that did not exceed $50 per pair.

I've also read you might want an amplifier (even if a cheap one) because it tends to help a lot (compared to the base deck).

A sub would be nice too, however, I am not skilled in building any sort of boxes or housings for it to sit on, so if I do end up buying one (the sub), I'll probably have it fit somehow here in Colombia.

I'll be flying to the states in late April, so I can bring back home the parts (WAY cheaper over there), and depending on the difficulty I could install them myself, I do mention that I've never done this, so if it would be a better idea to take it to some shop and get pros to do it, it would be fine as well.

in Tl;DR

1) 1 or 2 pairs of 6.5" speakers (if it makes sense to replace F and B) not beyond $50
2) Cheap amp not beyond $70
3) Cheap Sub (don't know what kind of quality I can get below $70)
4) Any advice, or links, etc for this kind of job.

My car is not sold in the States ( I believe) so general information relating to other small nissans would work too smile.gif

due to newer cars being more complex and that you have never performed this I would suggest you take it to a shop.
the newest I have done is a 2008, just to change the deck you have to buy a install kit, then you have to buy a wire harness to
adapt to the cars wire harness, if you install an amp the cars factory speaker is in most cases not good enough to push the power of an aftermarket amp and the system will shut down, ( Iknow this from experience). I am a automotive and truck engine and electrical diagnostics tech and also a automotive and truck computer diagnostics tech and programmer of the computers in them therefore you should really consider having a shop perform this task. I have been a automotive tech for over 30 years.

So what would your advice be smile.gif? (I will bring my parts to a reputable local shop to install the parts)

I've been reading in other places, and probably with $300 I cannot do a complete overhaul, but maybe replace F/B speakers + amp + Head Unit (well buy the parts and have them installed)

yes if your coming to the USA then buy the parts yourself and you should be able to pick up some equipment for $300. just shop around and don't let them know your not very experienced in the equipment or they will try and rip you off. just do lots of research on the equipment for your car.
I will look up your car online and post back what I can find.
have you considered satellite radio? if your in your car that much each day it's very nice.
I have it in my truck in my car in my house and I can listen online with just one account.

I would probably shop for the parts online given that I'll be there for a few days (4).

I've not really considered it given that it would require a subscription, and I mostly listen to my music (after $1000s on CD's you feel guilty not listening them frown.gif)

If you have any brands for me to steer away from that'd be nice, since Car Audio is not my jam, and I would hate being stuck with something not worth paying for haha!

I have always used Kenwood, Alpine, and Sony.
after looking your car up online the factory deck is simple, all it takes is a Phillips head screw driver to remove it,
so if you buy the deck and the wire harness adapter and dash kit I now think you can install it yourself, since the car already has speakers
that can be easy to do yourself, as for a amp are you going with 4 speakers or 2? if 4 then make sure you get a 4 channel amp and a deck that has
4 channel output leads.

Where did you find this if I may ask.. I would really love to find anything about my car's speaker system beyond some forums in the UK tongue.gif

The deck I know what it is (self explainatory) however I do not know where to buy the right wire harness adapter for my car.. and certainly what a dash kit is (or where to buy)

I'll be going with 4, so I'll for sure try to get a 4 channel amp.. where precisely in the car should I place it though (behind the seats as an example?)
where in the US will you be going? the online car audio sites I have looked at so far do not have your car on their list for audio products.
so I would say you need to go to a local car audio shop here in the US so you can talk with someone in person so they can get
you set up with the correct parts for your car, that way when you get home you don't have audio products that don't fit in your car.
I put my amps in the trunk of my car and under the back seat in my truck. a dash kit is sometimes needed and sometimes is not depending on what deck you select,
the kit can come with the wire harness and a plastic or metal adapter so the deck can fit in your dash and look correct.

Changing the head unit will be the best upgrade for you. After that you upgrade the speakers. All these i have done to my 2002 car with no problem. If you want to upgrade AMP you will need a lot more work. .

I'll be going to Miami, and the car probably does not appear as it is not sold in the US (Europe,Asia and South America get it).

Any idea on what is a decent amount for a head ?
