[Official] Galax (Galaxy / KFA2) HOF Owner's Club - Page 14

I was more talking about the 2 stock BIOS's for both cards.

I did have a look at each and with my limited knowledge I compared values, and other than the clock they looked different.

With fluctuating voltages that could cause coil whine/buzz couldn't it.
This card has it slightly too (in the Carbine 500r you had to put your head on the grills though)
Exiting Heaven at the still picture you can really hear it.

Are you running skyn3t's bios?

Oh ok! I must have gotten confused there, thinking that you were talking about the skyn3t bios instead of the stock bios.

I think voltage is indirectly connected to coil whine, from what I've read from our guru's it's actually caused by resonance (vibration). If increasing the voltage causes some resonance (I assume it does) then it does partly cause coil whine.

Yes, I am running the skyn3t bios for the HOF 780 Ti +! I sent over my bios to sky and he sent it back and posted it in the 780 Ti owner's club! Very cool of him!

Yeah, with the coil whine/buzz like everyone else I've come across it doesn't do it in Furmark.
I'm guessing thats because it keeps the card at full usages which keeps the voltages stable (I'm no expert, just piecing together everything..lol)

I did the usual of swapping power supplies etc etc, Ended up with a NZXT H440, it has awesome sound dampening... thumb.gif

But now that we know the HOF can run HOF+ bios I might try skyn3t's and see what happens.

Hey guys, I'm using the newest NVidia Beta Drivers and I just wanted to report that temps have increased by 3-4*C for benching and gaming. So far here are the Games I've tested:

1. Skyrim with about 12 texture mods, etc.
2. Crysis
3. Crysis 3
4. Metro: Last Light

So far the driver seems very stable! I used to have a minor drop (it's very minor but I notice it and it registers in OSD and precisionX) in GPU usage once in awhile using the older drivers (334.89) and now with beta 337.50 the drops have reduced considerably.

When benching, I notice the drop in heaven and valley and with the new drivers the drops have been cut by more than half.

I also notice the drop in usage (split second drop which registers in OSD and PrecisionX) when playing skyrim with the old 334.89, now with 337.50 I barely see any drops.

I'm using the skyn3t bios for everything above, anyone have similar results or any feedback?

Metro Last Light I get a 7 - 12FPS increase with the new drivers.
With all the "drama's" I've had with cards lately I haven't had a proper change to test the new drivers much though.
Might get cracking today if the babies let me...lol

Can I say the Skyn3t BIOS nearly got rid of the Buzz completely.
Guess it does have a little to do with fluctuating voltages.

I'll have to do tests of my own with the games I have, to see the FPS changes.

Do you mean your family sometimes gets in the way of our hobby sometimes (or are you talking about your card as your babies)? tongue.gif

I get the kids part that's for sure! I have 2 kids, and most of the time, errands need to be done that eats up my time! I can't wait for my vacation from the 21st to the end of April for some me time!

I plan to mod my FT03 by having it powder coated / painted to white while leaving the plastic bits black ala utopia / maingear:

I have the white card to go with it but I wish i had a white motherboard as well! biggrin.gif

I just wanted to add that coil whine most of the time disappears if the card is always placed under load. I've read many articles / posts on this and a lot of what people do is place a constant load on their card like playing graphic intensive games and benchmarks and eventually the whine dissipates up to the point where the whine is gone or very barely there. Though there have been extreme cases where the whine just keeps getting worse and worse.

In any case, it's good to hear that the skyn3t bios helped out with the coil whine!

Yeah its stopped complete using Heaven Benchmark, where yesterday it was buzzing.

So far only 2 games do it enough to notice Thief and Batman AO (still got to stick your head close though).
I've had 2 night of running Heaven all night...lol..
Vsync didn't make it any quieter until the BIOS flash.

Don't mind me though OCD kicking in I guess.
I've never actually spent $800 on a video card before its a lot of money for us (wife has cancer and I care for her she tried to do something nice) and you kind of expect no flaws.
I've usually had the mid range stuff like the 5850, GTX570, GTX670 etc, first time buying top of the range, first time I've even had any problems with any of my hardware too.

The Galaxy is a top performer, I love it, even with the whine its my top pick for a card.

The skyn3t bios gives you much higher averages in benches.

I did PM skyn3t the HOF bios to take a look at as well, but so far the HOF+ is running perfectly.

Oh I have 5 kids..lol
Youngest are 9months and 2yo..lol

This is the electrical Buzzing noise..

You know what's funny.
If the card was faulty I wouldn't of lasted the 9 hours of Metro LL benchmark I left running last night.

Card got a 70c, and the results got better the more it ran.
So I've be punishing the card for days now and it keeps going.
Proves there is no real fault and if the ASUS card had the exact same buzzing there could be something else causing it.
ASUS Buzz
http://youtu.be/aa4kFFpt5Qs

Wife slept on the lounge (she had major surgery to remove her cancer a few weeks ago, so she could only get comfortable there), which is next to the computer and she didn't hear it.
Only when you fire up Kingdoms of Amalur and Sims 3, but I understand that with no FPS lock on menu's.
Adaptive Vsync gets rid of the whine, not the slight buzz..

But I assume that yours doesn't make a sound biggrin.gif

I hope it doesn't come across like I'm whining too much, with the 100's of other threads and posts around the net of the same problem with the 780/780ti I'm just trying to brain storm.
Especially when people go from a high end GTX6xx card that was silent.

4 Boys and 1 girls for me, Girl is the middle child 6 years either side..

edit:
I had a thought, I wonder if the pump on the Kraken X60 is causing it, it is plugged into the motherboard.

Ok I've finally got the pc complete transfered into the NZXT H440 and all I got to say is Holy crap is quiet.
I can't hear a thing, even with my ear against it.

Heck can't even hear the whine of Kingdoms of Amalur.

It did push the temps up a bit from 65/66c to 69/70c, but I might replace the NZXT fans with some high flow Noctua's.

Though I heard back from where I bought the card, they have tested 3, 2 Buzzed one didn't, they offered me to return it and they will give me the pre-tested one if mine is proven faulty.
