My first ever GPU so I will try that. Been one heck of a dance making all these adjustments get get high OC on air.

What I will say is back down a bit then test for a week or so or when you feel you going to play some demanding games for a few days. I do play BF4 almost every day and will test for about a week on my current overclocking before I increase the speed. Like I said I hate memory overclock cause that's mostly the reason for unstable overclock.

I increased my memory to 100 and finished a run of 3dmark firestrike. Then I increased my memory to +150 and got a lower score in 3dmark. This was still on 1480mhz boost so it might be related to unstable core clock. The biggest issue for me is that this card is voltage locked and I'm so pissed at that. I though well hof is made for overclocking so they should allow us to increase voltage above the normal 1.212V although I didn't know the voltage from what I can read it's 1.2-1.212V I also don't feel comfortable doing a bios mod cause if I break the card it doesn't cover the worranty(or so I think).

I really like this card because on 1455mhz and my temps is about 70C max 73 for a second then back down and I can't even hear the fans so I have more headroom. I just want to get about 1470-1480 but if it will only top out on 1455 I'm still happy as it's still a nice boost from my stock 1380mhz.

Sorry for the long reply and if anyone can assist uus in getting better overclock I will appreciate it. Now I have a question. Is it safe to bios mod the card to the XOC bios or will there be a huge risk in doing that? I don't want to do it and reduce life by a few years just to get close to 1500mhz and add huge risks to it.

Just an update according to gpu-z my perfcap reason is VOp,VRel. Also my utilization is nowhere near 90%

I can only get +63 on the core and I'm watercooling with max temps of 42..,. So annoying people with only fan coolers are hitting over +100mhz offset

I don't think thermal is your limit. Voltage might be the reason. I think my issue is also voltage but like I've been saying looks like 1450 will be the max so far for me. Stock I can do 1350 untill I upped the voltage I get 1380 boost clock so I have a very bad card. I'm pretty disappointed in my card and wish I bought a more expensive card. This is the cheapest card in south africa. I know it's luck of the draw with card cause I can go and get a msi lightning 980 ti but what if it was the same. I think maybe it was a better choise to buy this card than something more expensive that might not even reach my current speeds. at least I'm getting better performance than my r9 280x crossfire system + smoother gameplay. I'm not a pro gamer so Gsync will help me out to make game smoother when framerate drops. I like eye candy visuals and play BF4 on max graphics now minus the AA

Can someone explain why in bf4 I get very little Core fluctuations? Normally when I die or something it will drop but then after respawning it will go back up.

Edit: Sorry just to add something else. I now decided to try out the Xoc bios and acording to MSi afterburner and gpu-z my voltage is still 1.212V max. When setting the slider on +100 I still can't go to 1.5V. It's sad that many people state the reason for perfcap is power limit. I think my card needs a lot more voltage to actually overclock. My asic on GPU-z reads 64.7%

ASIC 69.6%
Max V 1.2

Whenever I add mV in Precision X regardless of settings it would make it unstable. My card as others is finicky with Memory clock as I will show. The air cooling on this impresses me highest recorded temps on testing was 71. It would make sense given what I saw with the voltage that it's V locked. (duh)

Now what I found interesting today is, at my highest stable Firestrike scores the PC would not run valley or heaven. At my highest Valley and Heaven scores the PC would not run Firestrike. This was interesting to say the least.

Now I also noticed along the way testing stuff out, that for whatever reason this card really likes 3289 on the memory clock. It was repeatedly one of the more stable MC in various core clocks.

So the following is my two most stable over clocks and their bench marks which I found interesting as well:

Most stable/Lower clock: +84/+333; 1476/3289

Heaven
2378

Valley
4384

Firestrike
17184

Firestrike Extreme
8784

FirestrikeUltra
4862

Second most stable/highest core clock +101/+333; 1493/3289

Heaven
2547

Valley
4417

FireStrike
17153

Firestrike Extreme
8848

FirestrikeUltra
4916

Now when I say the higher clock is not as stable in the benchmarks it just has some ever so slight artifact in a couple of spots on each run. So I thought that it was interesting how close the results are with two different clocks that are within 17 points of each other.

On the higher clock the temps are very stable under full load. I'm also on a 60Hz 1080p 55" TV, not sure if that would affect things any. Can't wait to see what water does to this setup.

So upon further inverstigation Looks like I'm already voltage limited even at stock. I just played a bit of GTA and nowhere near 80C but after a while I get artifacts. switching back to default it runs great. I must have one of the worste 980ti's ever. So sad cause I was looking forward to this overclocking. one of the reason I got the hof is for it's amazing cooler but looks like it's not so amazing. Anyone that can give me some explenation as to why I'm getting this?

My cooler is working great so not sure what to say there. The highest I have gotten once or twice was like 74 degrees. If you're handy enough to do it, I would remove the cooler from the GPU and clean off the factory paste put new thermal paste and re install factory cooler. Then at least you know that's not an issue anyways.

Ok so after a game of bf4 I can see my boost clock fluctuate. Perfcap reason is VRel. So Can someone please mod me a bios that will allow me a more constant voltage when gaming so that it will boost better? Do me one with 1.175V and one with 1.2V so I can test the reliability. At least we have dual bios on this card. I just want to play my games without the card throttling due to voltage or so.

Edit: I also now tried the XOC bios and I don't know if it's safe. I like the fact that it's running my boost clock more consistent. for example I ahve a boost of 1436 when overclocking the core only. Nothing else change just the core and when i play games it own't drop anything below core clock of 1434 and temps around 73C in BF4 with a fps limiter of 95hz on 2560, ultra graphics 0xAA

Remember I'm in South Africa and it's super hot here so actually not bad. In BF4 at least I don't see that much of a boost and the cool thing now after playing a few rounds I don't see my clock really fluctuate to 1200-1300mhz. the lowest it goes is 1436mhz and that's fine as performance is rock solid. I think my VRM was maybe getting a bit hot cause you must remember running GTA on 2560x1440 and somewhat high graphics can be very stressful so no suprise it''s running that hot.

I also don't see that much boost over my current clock and it even feels smoother to me. But like my previous post I think I'm getting ahead of myself saying my issue is resolved. I will have to test more in some other games. I'm still a noob to the New Nvidia cards and how you overclock them. Nothing beats owning the actual product. I check many reviews and so on but doing stuff yourself is always the best way to learn.

Thanks man. Just another question. I tried the XOC bios and all i can say is it works to what I want to do. Now i only clocked it to 1436mhz. I see a more consistent boost clock. It boosts to 1436mhz without dropping .The only games it drops to lower clocks is games like Black ops 2 but that i understand as it doesn't use that much power anyway. In bf4 I had a consistent clock of 1436mhz without it dropping down whatsoever. My power usage went to 35% - 38% once and I see the power that's set in that bios is set to 900w. So that equals about 315-345W. Well within the limits of the stock bios. I just get a more consistent load that's it.

So my question is. Is is safe to do just that bu running the xoc bios and let it run full boost when gaming? It still downclocks when on desktop mode.
