Corsair Fans by Application

Quick check of my understanding:

True or false:

The AF series is best suited as a case fan while the SP series is best for a radiator or heatsink due to the higher static pressure?

Pretty much got it.

The SP series will also be better in situations where there is some obstruction, even if its something like a hard drive cage. smile.gif

Thanks twerk!

I was 90% sure but wanted to be certain before any cash hit the counter.

Actually, this isn't entirely true. The SP120 Performance is significantly better than all the other fans, both at static pressure and air flow primarily because there is almost no real world application of just spamming air into your case; airflow is almost always obstructed either by components, or fan grates, so the AF's are pretty useless, and the SP120 Performance comes pretty close to matching it's airflow realistically anyway.

Also, unless you NEED the Corsair fans for a colour coordinated build, Cougar fans have become popular and are better than the Corsairs, and Koolance OEM water cooling fans are the best 120mm fans you can buy as they have 106CFM, 7.2mm static pressure and only cost $12 Cdn.

You can get them from DazMode.com

SP120s are better than AF120 in every case except noise in unobstructed free-flow situations (in the real world we have HDD cages, filters, mesh, etc)

Thanks for the great tip!

It begs the question though:

Why do I see sooo many AF-Series in systems around here? I'm not doubting your claims but actually wondering if this information is not widely known?

Most people don't research things that seem intuitive.

And most people aren't enthusiasts; they're G4M3RS that dabble in enthusiasm if they think they can increase their FPS in League of Legends from 587 to 590.
