Card stuck in 3d clocks

Hey there,
my video card is seemingly stuck in 3d clocks. Even as soon as I boot up windows (only process starting is the creative volume panel) if I open GPU-z I can see that the card is running its 3d clocks. I am using maximum performance power settings, but according to what I read around the internet, it should have no influence whatsoever on the card clock state.

In the nvidia control panel the power management mode is set to "adaptive" as well. The only thing that manages to fix this, is to use precisionx, activate K-boost and then deactivate it. Then, the moment I shut down precision-x the clock of the card will go back to the idle ones and the card will switch properly between 2d and 3d clocks.

This workaround however is effective only until the next reboot, point in which I'll need to run precisionx again to fix the card clocks. Is there a way around this? I am using windows 8.1 along with the 334.89 drivers.

I would try the newest driver, if that doesn't work try an earlier one. I only use "prefer maximum performance" and clocks go up and down like they should. You can also gain some FPS in certain games from using this setting.

If you have Precision X starting up, it might be the issue to. MSI Afterburner is built by the same guy who made P.X and is a better program, so would advice you to use that instead no matter if its the cause of failure or not.
