[GoN] Battlefield 4: Naval Strike DLC delayed on PC as DICE solve issues - Page 4

I read that as "the money pinatas we call the players need time to recover, according to our latest market research"

They don't care if the game works, they just care about getting paid.

mmkay?

I'd like to see how the rest of that conversation goes down...

We did it today... a company with 11,000 staff too! wink.gif Release script failed initial migration phase and we had to stop the entire cluster switching.

Went OK actually... that's why I found this thread amusing.

That's life.

I dont recall this ever happening with BF3 or its DLC. That game was buggy at the start then after a few months they fixed it and it worked fine. BF4 is just car crash after car crash at every single stage.

To be fair this is probably the first time DICE have had the balls to say to EA "we aint running it because its not working." Kudos to them, if only 5 months late.

Seems OK for me :s Not to say it works for everyone, but, it works for a lot of people.

Nah, it really can happen at every stage. First concepts, during build and during release.

They will have a bunch of migration scripts that prepare the live/production systems to have software rolled out. This is something that is very difficult to test in a non-real world scenario. Most companies will do some blackbox testing, but it doesn't really reflect real world usage.

So, they can begin a rollout and find that some scripts are causing issues with production servers etc... That happens a lot in software and tends to be why companies do staged rollouts. E.g. With cell phone updates, one person gets it on day 1, another person gets it day 5... they rollout over a period of time.

With games you can't do that, the software must be available day 1. So, if you have a problem when rolling out, you have to stop the whole thing.

That is software, that is real life. This stuff happens a lot, believe me!
I really don't care if you're programmer or not, this does not happen all the time, as a matter of fact, I can't think of ANY other time a game or DLC has been delayed ON the day it was to be released, at least not by more than an hour or two. If you can, please name some.

I'm not a programmer... couldn't do that. Too difficult tongue.gif

I can't really name many games, I don't play anything other than BF and Civ games. I was considering the wider software world.

Fair play for them for not just releasing it with whatever bug it was. I rather they delay and fixed it prior to release.

If this worked out...I was actually thinking of buying the game. I wanted to see it released first...and make sure it wasn't broken beyond belief.

This is almost as good and refreshing BF2142...almost...they still need to find a way to add Walkers. I think it is kind of dumb...if they can find a way for soldier to care about steaming the enemies flag in BF3 they should be able to have a new experimental vehicle get introduced and bring back the Walker. It would be so awesome with the better interaction with the environment...I bet they could make it kick down walls and step over more objects and such. The limitation by the older Frostbite engine in BF2142 reduced the effectiveness of it.
