I have read I don't need more than a GOOD 650W PSU for the GPU (even though it states minimum requirements is 750W). I was looking at the EVGA NEX650G Gold but this thread
warns me off it.
What would you guys recommend? I am looking for something that will last and power my system. I am not planning on doing much, if any, overclocking (my motherboard won't allow the CPU to oc anyway).
The 750W minimum is for peak-rated PSUs. The typical 750W peak-rated PSU would have a +12V capacity of about 540W (which is 45A on 12V power). However, you wouldn't even need that much. Check this out:
With one R9 290 under full load in their system, their PSU pulled 372W from the wall outlet. Their CPU was idling, so I have to add up to 85W for your CPU under full load. This makes the PSU pulling 457W from the wall outlet (while the 290 and 4670 are under full load simultaneously). This means that if the PSU is 90% efficient while pulling 457W from the wall outlet, then the computer is pulling 411W from the PSU. Your power consumption while gaming will be even lower, never exceeding about 375W.
Therefore you could power this with a good 450-550W PSU very easily.
The best one that I can recommend to you for under £90 is the 550W Antec TruePower Classic:
I guarantee you that this will have all the power that this build will ever need. It's also a high-quality unit as well.
