[TWITCH] NVIDIA unveils the Titan Z - Page 42

Did you read the post? Will 2x 780s beat Titan, Titan Black, or Titan Z at CUDA development? No, no, and no. Not even close. That's why the Titan cards have a higher price tag. I'm not saying I like this, but the product segmentation isn't only for gaming. Sure you CAN game on them. But that isn't the only design intent, nor the primary design intent.

The target market is primarily for CUDA development, and the 780 cannot touch the Titans in this aspect. Period. Now like I said, this is not the product I wanted from nvidia so I was left disappointed. Make no mistake, I would much rather have a 790 rather than Titan Z. So yes,...disappointed at the news yesterday. But CUDA developers will have no issue with the price of this card, and no, the 780 will not perform anywhere near it since the 780 is 1/26th of Titan Z's compute/CUDA capability.

The card is just confusing. Even the Titan was mostly used as a Gamer card. Yeah Nvidia likes to believe otherwise. People that do CUDA dev will probably be better off with Quadro Drivers.

Random Thought: If the Titan Z was actually meant for a workstation card, I wonder why NVIDIA did not name it Tesla instead?

p.s. I did not read the whole thread smile.gif

I've always felt the Titan series is Nvidia's take on the mullet:

Business up front, with the party in the back.

Maybe it's the photography making it look bigger. But it may be 2.5. Hard to be 3.

However, this is certainly not the product I wanted from nvidia. I was hoping for a consumer level GTX 790 along with some maxwell tidbits, which of course did not happen. So I was disappointed. Yet the pricing of the Titan Z is fine for the target market. The target market is not primarily for gaming, it is for CUDA development - and the Titan cards do not have cut down compute capabilities so they are superior to the 780s in that respect.

Like I said though, this is certainly not what I expected. I definitely was disappointed yesterday. But the price shouldn't be surprising considering that it's a CUDA compute card first and foremost. Sure, you can game on it, but why would the PC gamer buy this? It doesn't even make sense for a PC gamer to get this, especially when 6GB 780s are being released at 550$. I mean, you can SLI 780ti cards in 2 way and get better performance anyway, so I can't really see any gamer getting a Titan Z. I can see a CUDA developer getting a Titan Z, though.

I understand where you are coming from, however if you went to Nvidia's website you will see the card being marketed as a first class gaming card rather than a professional card. At about $2800 you can get 4 custom cooled 780 Ti's and destroy the thing in OCing, and gaming performance, also the 6 GB GTX 780 Ti is on its way to be released for people with high resolution monitors, which is going to render this card pointless as a gaming only card like how Nvidia is advertising it.
