[TWITCH] NVIDIA unveils the Titan Z - Page 46

If the price is not justly made on 780 then you have to believe in a conspiracy between AMD and NVIDIA since it the only way to explain AMD made smaller chips just recently since it would be nonsense to believe they really cared about anything else than price of die cuts. And while cartels are a reality I think it's done very minimally in this case.

Last I checked, the GTX Titan Black and GTX 780 Ti were EXACTLY THE SAME PERFORMANCE with the 6GB GTX 780 Tis right around the corner...
Last I checked, GTX 780 Ti SLI will OUTPERFORM a GTX Titan-Z at half the cost...
Last I checked, SLI is still limited to 4 GPUs...

The problem here is that you are getting two Corvettes as a package and are trying to demand the premium of the McLarren...

Xeon E7-8890 v2 to a Xeon E7-8870 v2 actually provides an increase in performance and the price increase can be justified. This would be akin to comparing a Ferrari 458 Italia to a McLaren MP4-12C, you actually are able to see tangible performance gains.

So unless you are planning on an ITX build, there is no practicality in the Titan-Z. Even then, you would be forced into picking a case that would be large enough to accommodate a m-ATX board just to fit the card... The Mercury S3 is 14.94"H x 10.54"W x 15.03"D and the motherboard sits horizontally... You can comfortably fit a m-ATX board (9.6"W x 9.6"D) in the same space...

If you want to continue to make the argument that there is a niche that the Titan-Z fills, please do point it out... Because, the way I see it, it is a $1000 premium over a Titan Black SLI, has no practicality in ITX builds, and servers are not limited on space...

Even the announced Iray VCA uses 8 Quatro K6000 with 12GB ram each...

To top it off, the Stanford AI Labs array that was discussed during the live stream consisted of 3 servers with a total of 12 GPUs... 4 per server...

It's outright stupid arguing whether the card is a "Gaming Card or Scientific Card. If it has gaming or scientific drivers for it, then it's "MADE FOR IT" buttkick.gif and in this case, we expect it to be compatible for both. Many will continue to argue the point like it matters, just because some "Commisioned Salesman or Saleswoman told them something to get a Sale". Are we that stupid??? /grits teeth "Make up your own mind." Don't be sheep. sozo.gif We are OCN, act informed for gods sake. rolleyes.gif"I know preachy much lol"

Pay what you can afford.
Trust what the Drivers actually allow the card to do functionality wise.
Get new or tweak the drivers to up performance.
Trust what the card actually delivers by your own hand.
Never trust Salesmen...You Fools biggrin.gif

Complaining about what you cannot afford for 1 single Nvidia upcoming release seems quite shallow and shortsighted, lord knows we get a card every damn month now? New Releases seem to be at an all time saturation. That's the strategic plan and point, I think, for Nvidia to combat the competition. Blitzkreig.

There's still plenty of cards at all price points for everyone, and almost all the middle range cards can run every damn game or software package just fine.

2cents.gif

Hit the nail on the head. I noticed this trend the second the Titan was released. People kept on complaining how expensive it was and unnecessary it was (due to price point). If you're the person that is bawking at the price you are not the target market, the person with the deeper pocket is the target market. High end has moved higher this generation (in terms of price and performance) than ever before. What was previously considered high end is now only mid range.

As for the Titan Z, If I was doing an ITX build this would be in it for sure.

Not sure if this is legit or not but the card is jsut 2 8-pin connectors. Now we all know they can provide a lot more than 150W each but Nvidia must be underpowering this card big time if it thinks a 375W TDP is good enough.

Yeah...just looked it up quick. A regular Titan as a TDP of 250watts. Though this isn't really the same as two Titans smashed together so it wouldn't be 500watts...but I think I'd still expect at least 425watts for the TDP rating...at least.

Though TDP is a rather meaningless rating.

I don't care for Titan or Titan Black. The price is way out of my range and it's utterly useless for me since I don't even use compute. Because of this I wouldn't touch Titan with a 10 foot pole.

BUT it's Titan's price that's made my life harder. Charging $1000 for Titan is what allows these pricks to increase X80 prices like crazy. They charged $650 for a 780, which is a ridiculous price.

I, of course, bought it, so I`m being a hypocrite, but it doesn't change my argument. 5 months later they finally lower the price to $500 and release the 780Ti for $700 which is still a stupid price. Again, me being a hypocrite I sold my 780 and bought the Ti.

Based on 480 and 580 pricing, the 780Ti should have cost $500 out of the gate, not $699, and the 780 should have been released for $400 instead of the stupid price of $649.

You wanna spend $1000 on a Titan?? By all means go balls deep! Buy 2 or 3, hell even 4! I don't care! Just as long as they don't charge ridiculous prices for the X80 series I'll be fine.

They've blurred the line between gaming card and workstation card and this has allowed them to charge insane prices for their gaming cards. "Look! 95% of the performance of a Titan, and only $649! GREAT BUY!". No, it's not a great buy. It's a turd of a buy, it only looks good cause Titan's waaaay overpriced.

Can't wait for a $1399 790.

$799 GTX 880 anyone?

$999 GTX 980???

It's coming and you geniuses are rationalizing it using "supply and demand" and "the halo affect" without even being bothered by it! Who's god damn side are you on?? Theirs or ours????

It can't continue for ever...they will shoot themselves in the foot. We already are seeing GPUs that are few generations old that can still play new games well. If a new GPU cost $1000+ do you really think any game developers would make their game need that much horse power and limit their customer base that much? At the current rate I starting to wonder if I will be running 580 SLI for years to come yet.

I hope the people talking about 580s, 480s and how the Titan ruined GPU pricing understand that there were also GPUs made before the 40nm generation.

You know, stuff like
-$650 GTX 280s,
-$630 8800GTXs,
-$830 8800 Ultras,
-$650 7800GTX 512,
-$600 7800GTXs

and so on. Most of those also get a price bump compared to today due to inflation.

But obviously the 580 and the 480 are the only GPUs out there and $650 is unprecedented and completely new for flagship GPUs.

Prices fluctuate and the GPU market changes over time. Just relax and buy what you're comfortable with buying.
