Oh, and by the way, a true professional card has ECC (like the 7970 had...) and professional drivers and support.

So has the official price of this card been disclosed yet? Is $3k the actual price?

The worst part is anyone using this as a professional card is either delusional or stupid. Why buy a Titan Z when you can get a K6000? If you're blowing 3K on a GPU you can afford to blow 5k on a BETTER GPU for what you're doing.

We call it the QUADRO series

the Titan Z is a 3000 dollar GAMING GPU I think enthusiasts in the gaming community are letting Nvidia and AMD take us for a ride right now. Perhaps there DOES need to be a 3rd competitor to put these two rascals in check.

But I won't discount your reasoning as impossible.....

Oh yea....and 295x2 at $1500 and possible 790 makes it all the more likely I think

No way this will perform the same as 2 780 Tis with a single fan. If you look at the compute performance numbers, they equate to about 700 MHz core. Which means that regardless of whether or not it's fair to compare, this thing will get stomped in gaming by the 295X2, which runs at 1GHz core, at least in stock config.

Titan was marketed as a luxury product to rich gamers. That's a given. It was also a good business decision because in a crisis the rich are the only ones staying rich and still buying their richy things.

Yes, it's not optimal for most gaming but that's what luxury products are. Better than the best, often very bad value for money, for extremely rare occurrences of an advantage.

It's also not produced with overclocking in mind, i.e. with 780 OC'ed vs Titan non-OC'ed in mind. The OC community is a tiny unimportant market, even for GPUs like the 780.

It's one thing when the luxury product is like, say, the 4960X or the Titan Black. These products are silly but they don't really have an impact on the market. You can still buy a 4930K for 500 bucks less, it just won't come with a black sticker or that extra cache or say "EXTREME" when you open up CPU-Z. You can still buy a 780 Ti for 300 bucks less, you just won't get the word "TITAN" engraved in black on your GPU, or the accelerated FP64 that even lots of professionals don't use.

When it's something like the Titan pre-780 or the Titan Z, there really is nothing remotely comparable. And that should make consumers mad.

And these ridiculous prices have been driving up the prices of regular flagships as well, just look at the 295X2. Nobody would buy that damn thing for $1500 if they didn't know the competition was barely any better for double the price, and board partners would feel much less justified demanding $700 for their custom 290X if the competition didn't charge the same. I see this as, really, exactly the same as when AMD was dropping flagships like the 4870 and 5870. If those cards were priced appropriately, do you really think the x80 range would be down to 500 bucks for three generations? Same thing now, NVIDIA's price jacking is going to get a response from AMD.

They are not taking anyone for a ride. They have identified a market and they are supplying products aimed at that market. They know that there are sufficient people out there with $3000 to spend and of course inevitably someone will have SLI Titan Z's within a week of them going on sale. Whether anyone needs these GPU's or whether it is just willy waving, they will sell.

If some strange group of folks want to drop 3 grand on a dual chip card that's their business. I just don't want to be paying $1000 for next gen's mid-range offerings as a result of the "great response we had" from the sales of this thing.

Nah, I think they're fishing the extremes of the market. They will fail. They expressed surprise when Titan was released and sold and now they try to see if the same can be happen with a further extreme.

But I think they went beyond logic now. Even this forum's most rich customers start ridiculing it.

780 was decently priced for the era. Then (or before it, anyway) you got the Titan for much more which wasn't deserving it but ok, it was just a few hundred more, not a thousand. It got too far. It will fail.

I just want to know what a 790 will run me. I'd really like for it to be a 790 ti (2 780ti's) otherwise it really wouldn't be worth the upgrade. That would be the ultimate ITX graphics card, not this ridiculous Titan Z ridiculousness.
