[TWITCH] NVIDIA unveils the Titan Z - Page 74

Look: its tech. High Priced? Yes. Overpriced? Without a doubt: never said otherwise. Performance compared to SLI's Titans? Probably - remember, no one has had one benched yet, so we just don't know - not equal to a Pair of Titan Blacks, not to mention the pair of OG Titans with custom BIOS's that I have running now. But in the end, its tech, and pretty awesome tech at that. They got two full up - not gimped core count wise from what I see - 110's procs on a single slab of PCB. With 12 gigs of VRAM. Anyway you dice it, thats pretty awesome. With some of the folks saying there is hardware/software to enable it to function as one massive GPU under certain circumstances (Although I don't think this is true myself) it gets even better.

It my money, and its the money of anyone else who buys one of these, to do with as I - and they - please with. I can buy this car, that card, the fancy watch and the house in the rockies. It doesn't matter what it is because it is mine to do with as I please. For those others to say what I can and can't do with my money is just plain wrong. No one needs anyone else's approval but their own - based off of if they can truly afford it - to spend as they please. If they don't like it, don't believe its as good as they say or that somehow - with that persons vast knowledge of economics which was no doubt picked up in the very best schools in the world - be bad for everyone, vote with your cash: don't buy it.

But don't go around calling those that do idiots, jerks, and worse. Be glad there are people like us: we are the ones driving the tech forward because we are willing to pay the stupid amounts needed to force these companies to develop bigger and better cards just to get our cash. For every Titan, Zed or otherwise, For every R9 295, thats a piece of tech that is going to trickle down and make the next gen all the better, be it lower cost or performance. Because the market isn't all that big for the 600 buck or more cards: thats tiny. The big bucks are in the 200 buck range. Volume trumps price, and always has. These companies, Red and Green Team, do it all the time: they take last gen hardware, put in bottom tier cards of the current gen, at good prices. We all win. I get the brute horsepower I want, others get the value that they want.

Whats wrong with that?

Heya fool and his money are easily parted. I have no issues with that.

What I have an issue with is when that fool's spending habits drives the pricing for the entire rest of the market up. Including the 200 dollar range which ironically enough used to be the 125 dollar range. You're twisting my argument into something it's not. I have no problem with you spending your money like a madman. I have a problem when less than 1% of the market starts DRIVING the price of the other 99% of the market. It's not pushing tech forward it's not doing us any services or favors. It's the market being driven by the supplier and not the consumer.

You took one sentence and decided that was my argument and failed to read the rest. I am not glad for people like you. I am glad for people that buy google glass or 120hz monitors or 4k monitors. THOSE people drive the market. Not people that buy 3k GPUs with tech in them we've had for 15 years.

Ahahahaha. that was a good laugh. I dont support 295x2 price. And i absolute hate titan z price. If we had less fanboys from both teams probably we would have better prices too

Next time you make a CPU / GPU purchase, make sure to run it by Usario and get his approval first. thumb.gif

Don't forget, he will only approve AMD related purchases, since those are the Ultimate Price / Performance pieces.

Notice he has an 8320 + 7950, he's a SMART consumer, and is dearly loved by AMD.

I'm very much on Team Green, even though I also own a pair of 290X's, and I have to say on this, I will side with red in the fight between raw gaming performance between the Z and the 295X. I will probably buy both, but I think the AMD offering will be a better gaming card. The 295 may outperform the Titan Z, may: again, we don't have hard benches from both cards to say one way or the other. But I won't be betting against the 295 either: heat is a killer for both teams, and by putting that AIO cooler on it, they may have dropped the temps down to the point where they have to gimp the chips a lot less than the Z's will have to be to get under the designed thermals. Now, once the Z is water blocked, then that might change. But that goes for the 295X as well, and you can only draw so much power through a pair of 8 Pins. To me, thats the real shocker of both these cards. I was expecting at least 8+8+6 at the least on connectors.

It is two GK110s. We have had multi-GPU cards many times in the past and every single time, they've been SLI or CFX on a single slot in every sense of the word apart from OCing..In fact going from how previous dual GPU cards have been, it'll end up being a little slower overall due to heat and power constraints of two large GPUs in such a small space.

Actually we do have a way knowing how it will perform. Compute performance is linear, because it does not use sli/xfire. The Titan Black does 5.1 Teraflops, te Titan Z only does 8, even though the Titan Z has physically the same number of cores, rops, etc as two Titan blacks. THIS ALONE PROVES THAT THE Z IS DOWNCLOCKED compared to 2 Titan blacks. Mathematically, it comes out to about 700 MHz core. Why would anyone expect otherwise? It has a single fan for crying out loud.

Never said it was going to be equal or better than a pair of Titan Blacks: but we will not know that for certain till we get real benchmarks. Until then, everything is guesswork based off of inferences made from what tidbits of information is out there. Is it being, say, 80% to 90% of what a pair of Titan Blacks can do, the way to bet? Yep. My Money is on 85% of the performance of what I am running now. But we don't *know* that for certain.
It's of some importance to note that NVIDIA probably loses almost nothing by doing this. They have the chips already, they already sell on other cards, on plenty of other cards, so this is just another shot in the dark, if it fails it fails. And it will fail, most likely.

But who cares.

It's nothing.
