No 20nm product preview was disappointing.

you man lack of 20nm news?

Seems Nvidia decided they didn't need to pull all the stops for Maxwell. Why push all these new things when AMD is once again grasping for straws on the hardware side of things.

I just want my denver arms

seriously though... Is Nvidia going to start producing its own motherboards again? This thing looks like it would plug into a laptop style GPU slot (SMS3.0B) or w/e it is called...

GPUs sit on the usual slower PC slots but they basically connect to each other with a much faster connection NV announced. It uses physical modules etc. but it's technologically like faster SLI. They even use their own VRAM per GPU as before. They could of course change the market a little, the way those modules are sold will be interesting to see.

Has anyone deciphered how nvlink is physically utilized? At first I was thinking him showing us a module with weird connections that he basically stacks modules next to each other with nvlinks. But then I noticed the schematic shows each GPU going also to the PCI slots.

Hrm, unless it's both. Connecting cards with massive nvlinks AND sitting them on regular PC slots at the same time.

lol... nevermind, those aren't connectors, they are capacitors or similar.

It's just a bigger sli cable probably.

Suddenly Maxwell is not interesting anymore.

Stacked vram was known for more than a year now and it's a very exciting feature.

It's THE most important feature of it for gamers since most them don't even put more than 2 cards in parallel.

What they say is believable and an insanely faster VRAM will be a tremendous improvement on gaming and everything.

I only wonder if it handles temperature though. But I suspect they've calculated cooling easily "pierces" a few thin chips with no problem.

Hrm, at worst they may have to divert more cooling power on the chip itself since there is not even vram around it. But it may have lower losses that way hopefully so to be cheaper than not stacking.

As do I, but things change, and we just have to go with that.

I was hoping to see a sneak peak of the new 800 series, oh well.

I was thinking, we might see a sneak peek at E3? They might have held off gaming announcements for E3 instead of GTC. Maybe...

Sure, but that was the projected timeline back in 2013.

Again, he was talking about Maxwell, not Pascal. Pascal is going to get the stacked vram. Maxwell was supposed to get the unified memory but it appears that has dropped off the chart and only DX12 is left in its place.
