Watercooler tubing/hose differences?

Thread Starter
Are those super expensive watercooler hoses any different from the ones that you can buy on your hose local store? I mean, in my city its super overpriced, US$ 30.00 for 1m of 3/8" PrimoChill...

Money is not a problem, but what I need to know before cashing out is: Is there any differences between those watercoolers tubing and normal flexible crystal clear hoses? Theres a local store in my neighborhood that sells 1m of crystal clear hose for US$0.75.

I think that my question is pretty clear but I'll make it simpler: Is the price difference worth? Is there difference between the products?

Thanks.

Those $0.75 hoses will not attach anywhere as solidly as the premium hoses, and they tend to get very hard over time and become prone to leaking if moved or even bumped accidentally. And they will collapse easily if trying route them in tight bends. I would never use something like that!

Primochill LRT is pretty established as far as hoses go. You'll find that on some things its better to pay the premium price once instead of paying for the cheaper version and having to replace it later on with something better.

I'd say go with the Primochill because you don't know how the generic stuff will turn out over time.

Not to mention the risk of plasaticizer from cheaper hose. I've seen a few members use clear hose bought from Home Depot that clouded up and began leaching plasticizer as quickly as a week. $30 for 3m sounds really high. Where are you located?

I saw some posts commenting this problem, but I though that it was from tubings made from other materials, not silicon.. Anyway I live in Brazil, so everything imported here is really overpriced mad.gif
And its $30 for 1m mad.gifmad.gifmad.gif

Being in Brazil explains it. When you order the Primochill tubing, make sure it's the ADVANCED LRT. That is the one that has fixed the plasticizer and clouding problems that were sometimes present with regular LRT

depends on loop, I had to run hose out side my case through quick disconnect bulkhead fittings and loop down into my pedistal.

Tygon B-44-4X IB Pressure 1/2" ID (3/4" OD) - Reinforced Inner-Braid Imbedded Tubing,

you can bend it, kick it, bite it, stretch it, it has not not kinked yet.

I see! Its a saint-gobain, nice brand... But I really want a crystal clean tubing, and I think it'll not be easy to find saint-gobain at retail in my city..

Its hard to do those mods in your computer living in Brazil thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

Everything here is overpriced mad.gif

I use the Primochill tubing almost exclusively. We had a huge debate over at my home forum on whether or not "hardware" grade hose was a good option. I firmly stood my ground saying that I wouldn't ever use it in my own builds. I was roundly criticized for my "elitism" smile.gif

In the past I've also used DangerDen and Clearflex. I quit using Clearflex when they stopped offering a 1/2" ID / 3/4" OD tube and went with the 1/2" / 5/8" instead.

A lot of folks use Tygon and it comes highly recommended, but for the money and selection it's hard to beat Primochill.
