In a way you are all investors...though instead of stock you only get hope for advancements in a technology you care about. I still think it would be the right thing to do.

I believe that would turn Kickstarter into something else under the SEC. Listen there is a traditional path for startups to take when they need seed funding to get an idea off the ground which can then be bought up by a giant evil company and that avenue is called Venture Capital, Angel Investing, etc, etc.

Kickstarter & crowdfunding in general is supposed to be an idealistic way to raise capital to seed ideas....its purpose IS NOT to become another VC outlet.

We all know how corporate America feels about "the right thing to do"... If I had any inclination to donate to a kickstarter project at all it is now long gone.

How do you data mine a mouse? Can you datamine sunglasses too? How about cellphone screens those store data too right?

I don't see any way they can "data mine" from the OR. They've already stated there will be no major changes in how the rift works, and no login of facebook will be required. It's a peice of hardware that plugs into your computer nothing more, nothing less.

I won't say they've got no intention down the road on say the video entertainment side. For example they create a VR content delivery service simular to Netflicks or Hulu but for ONLY VR content or shows that have bought into their service. Then I can picture them doing the same thing netflicks does and track your prefered shows and make suggestions/ad you to death.

But in regards to OR it's a completely standalone piece of hardware. I could be extremely wrong, but I'd rather keep my spirits high, than try and crush this new tech boom based on speculations and bad gamer press.

Star citizen isn't going anywhere. CR truly hates the publisher leash. I could see CR selling SC just to get away from how toxic the forums are, though.

How to sum up the SC forums in one sentence . "My vision for SC>CR's vision for SC"

FB wants "zero latency" VR.

True, true...I just don't know if we've seen something like this happen before. Something getting off the ground via Kickstarter funds just to get bought out by a billion dollar company...and now the kickstarters might not get the product they originally backed. It just sounds like a raw deal. I am glad I don't kickstart...well, I kick started Star Citizen...that is the only thing I've ever done though.

They did get what they originally backed. The first shipments of dev kits.

i can see FB putting in a camera looking at the user of Occulas to read what they are thinking, and then what to sell them or who to snich on

I could definitely see them putting in all sorts of physical monitoring hardware and software somewhere down the road. blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, breathing rate, Eye movement, eye color, skin color. it really isn't that far fetched when you have someone like Facebook involved.
