[WSJ] Facebook to Acquire Oculus - Page 4

This was done for "the good of Virtual reality" nothing more, nothing less.

people are making comments as if OR was for the little guy, no no no. OR is for money, like every other company. How many times has VR tech come around, then flopped on the floor?

This time it will stick, and FB will see to it. I just won't be buying it. I'm truly glad I didn't buy DK2 now.

I had the same pessimistic thoughts till I read Zuckerburg's post. If Oculus is going to operate independently, then this is only good for everyone.. If.

yeah not too sure about this either...had high hopes for the Rift. still might be ok, but Facebook owned? advert integration incoming? urgh.

cant really blame the guy for selling out. anyone who sells they would never sell out probably wasnt offered $2billion.

Nah, it just means Oculus can jump ahead into much broader horizons earlier than expected.

OK Now after seeing the internet reaction its a general scream of noooooo.

Now I know the masses will not to like the oculus rift. The oculus rift will only be be in the gamer and tech market and alot of those people hate/distrust facebook. Now that most of the community of their would be sellers are mad and some sales are gone what is their end game?

People on facebook are not gonna buy Oculus rifts just look at them. Are they trying to make a bunch of patents?

I did understand those, I was just hoping that they had enough VC to become their own, entirely independent company, instead of being acquired and having to bow before someone with their own agenda.

I am still hoping that this deal is, at least for the first few years, just to give Oculus support, with Oculus still having controls over product decisions, who they hire/fire, etc. If that's the case I can see this being nothing but a good thing to get VR off the ground, and after that we'll see.

I know it's easy to be disappointed upon initially hearing the news, but this could be incredibly great for the Rift, for gaming, and for humanity as a whole!

Besides the obvious financial power now backing the technology development, the Rift could have some incredible uses beyond the sphere of gaming through Facebook.

Imagine how much better conference calls, video telecoms, and other remote business functions could be made using the Rift? Imagine how incredible it would be to speak with your friends and family as if you were in the same room, yet be separated by thousands of miles? Imagine the places you could go, visit, and experience without even leaving your house?

I'm optimistic about this acquisition, and am excited by the possibilities that could be realized with the proper management.

Can't wait!
