I always avoided FB because of their lack to privacy, but by buying out Oculus they could seriously push back VR for years. Hopefully Sony will make a good VR headset, then I'm sure by next gen (PS5 and Xbox Two) in a few years the second gen VR will be more mainstream
I think you are under estimating Facebook. They are well aware of the technologies position in the current market. It is pretty much only in the mindshare, and has JUST NOW moved into the "masses" mindshare. This is why they won't be changing anything until after Consumer Version #1.
They will find ways to integrate hardware/software to datamine, if they don't find other ways to pay the bills.
1.) Eye tracking (eye tracking would be a redundancy on top of farming clicks)
2.) Temp tracking.
3.) Breath rate.
4.) Blood pressure.
5.) Heart rate.
Some of these things are already being designed into new cellphone releases. It isn't that far fetched.
ad streaming & facebook pop ups will be disable-able, but account requirement will likely exist post CV1. They will just follow suit on 90% of other peripherals that have their own software. Example: Razer.
