He's right. Zombies have been done to death. (no pun intended)
Even SouthPark used Nazi Zombies in their RPG, but that whole game was a satire on gaming and their entire IP.
You know what is going to happen to the next $9.99 game I see about zombies that pops up on steam that looks like Organ Trail? Nothing. It's going to be completely ignored.
Also, unless you are openly representing yourself as an employee of an existing company on their official forums for a specific game - a public forum is the last place you should be asking for ideas to be put into a videogame. In the former scenario, anyone posting an idea has already signed an agreement that anything they post on those forums/in-game belongs to them and they are free to use it as they wish. Nobody here has signed such an agreement with you or your friends, which would need to happen if you intend to actually sell the game.

Brainstorming and twisting ideas are the basis of this post.
Things that have already been done can be used as long as the the said content matches a percentile of or not of the original content.
Comparing games or saying what is good or bad with those said games is just.
Yea, this is always the answer you wanna hear in a dev interview
"So, what inspired you to make this game?"
"Well, we couldn't really think of anything, so we asked some random people on a forum for ideas and just changed them enough to make it legal"
That sounds like a GOTY for sure.
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against brainstorming or collaborating with people, but there is a right and wrong way to do it.
Bad zombie games have been done to death. Besides left for dead and walking dead there are none that are decent. I think a sandbox survival game that starts out at the begining of the outbrake and time lapses with less food/weapons at each point, where you have to upgrade housing to make it safe is a great idea. The story is what drives a great game. I wouldhave loved dead island if it was anything like the original trailer. No super powers. Make it a realistic game. I know realistic and zombie dont go together but i hope you understand what i mean.
One 'fun' zombie idea spin. Robots versus Zombies. Basically you create and build robots to go out and fight the zombie menace from safe within your Vault. You can salvage build and upgrade. Conquer and secure territories, etc.
