The other story here is what the acquisition might mean for Kickstarter, which is where Oculus Rift got its original funding and dedicated fanbase. Kickstarter is supposed to be about hip indie projects that The Man won't fund, so if they are eventually sold to The Man after all, that is going to leave a sour taste and perhaps even exert a chilling effect on future projects. With this deal, Kickstarter might have lost its anti-corporate innocence

Watch, they're gonna have eye scanners in it then scan to see who's using it so that they can project the proper ads.

Where in the policies and guidlines of Crowdsource and Kickstarter does it even mention such?

Anyone with money that could make a substantial "donation" would look at the specifics of the donation program. The poor dope with a little bit of money , who is excited about the innovation, will throw a couple bucks at the idea in hopes it gets to market, but does not read the fine print. So I ask, find me a rich donator who is mad that FB requisitioned Oculus because "Kickstarter is supposed to be about hip indie projects that The Man won't fund", which is completely irrelevant in the scope of making dreams reality!

And who the hell is "The man"? In current black American culture, "The Man" represents the 'police'?

Yup, Kickstarters got kicked in the nuts.

I highly doubt that, seeing as Kickstarter helped Oculus get to where it needed. Now look, there is OV2, and the developers have billions to work with!

Kickstarter is good for helping unknow innovation become a talked about idea in the consumer market. When corporations see that demand for that innovationn, they will buy it out and produce it... Which is what every inventor strives for, being able to sell their idea and make themselves wealthier and the consumers happier, or maybe not even consumers, but selling an idea for the betterment of society.

Oh, the "no one should be mad about an action that wasn't explicitly forbidden by the fine print" argument. I don't think you understand what sentiments were expressed by Oculus' founders, and why many of those who funded them decided to do so, and why they now feel betrayed. If you're unwilling to take the time to read enough to understand this situation better, fine, but I think your point of view is much less convincing for being not well-informed.

i would not have single problem if oculus was failing and only way to make it happen was to sell it. but the way this was done was a betrayal. i dont care about a cut, this is not about money, and people wanting share of a pie, noone wants that. its just that an open platform was sold to a close platform company like fb, is whats making people angry

Very very true, with that said.....

The kid who started OR is 27, I would have done the EXACT same thing as him! I don't care who you are, if you have a product and a start-up, and someone offers you $2,000,000,000 for it, you take that money! I would have done it differently in that I wouldn't be sticking around like the guy is, I would cash out and be gone.

Is there a chance you could be worth more than $2 billion some day? Yea, there is a chance, but I will take the $2 billion payday now, and just enjoy the rest of my life.

here's the thing, Palmer (i think) said they had received offers from other companies. Which means they probably turned down some equally impressive offers. Obviously I don't know what the size of those offers were but it's likely they didn't know FB was going to offer $2B before receiving those other (probably) hundred million dollar offers. The founder must have had some reasoning to turn down those offers.
