All I think we all can hope for from FB buying Oculus is that it will help them deliver the final consumer version for as cheap as possible, forcing all competitors to do the same. That I think is the only way VR is going to get the momentum it needs to move out of a niche technology to wide adoption. To be cheap and widely available. I lean a bit more towards having VR implemented in everything than only having it work with a few select applications, gathering dust the rest of the time.
Also FB isn't in a position to screw around with the development side of Oculus. If and when FB want's to monetise anything in VR they need to have a huge user base. Things like ads (aka scum of the earth) needs to be pushed to millions of users to even be profitable in the same realm that FB operates at. But the thought of Facebook just sitting in the shadows waiting for its chance to turn VR into an ad revenue stream is bloody scary. I can see why Notch pulled away
