Their 2i2 ($150 USD) also has the ability to drive speakers and headphones, each with their own volume controls.

The solution twerk mentioned is a lot cheaper though ^_^
lol since i wanted cheaper than twerk even mentioned i dont think so for 150 heh. Simply all i want is to use both easily, not go deeper and deeper into pricey electronics.

You run the header to the pins on your sound card or mother board and then when you plug into the front the software will acknowledge the new devise mute the other if you are set up that way. then you would unplug the headset and the speakers should work again.

Alternatively you could leave both plugged in and then switch between the two as your default device.
Anyway i tried what you said. Opened up my PC and plugged my haf932s HD audio into the sound card. Unfortunately it didnt list as another sound device like you said it should. So i still need to unplug to use speakers. But that saves me having to buy another extension thanks.

But i have to say that im not sure if its just a placebo but the sound seems less distinct then it did ie not very good sound stage anymore.

But it sounds like that whether i plug into front panel, the speaker or directly into the sound card. (All of these after plugging the front panel into the card, as opposed to before i plugged in the front panel to the card)

Can anyone say whether plugging the front panel into the card could have a negative affect on its performance and soundstage? Even when plugged directly into the sound card?

No idea about the quality of the sound. But when you plug the front panel header into the sound card you aren't plugging another device so it won't show up as a device until your headphone into the front panel.

I'd prolly have a go with the AD700's on the Titanium and the X-530 on the onboard, it's possible you'll be hard pushed to notice a difference and it'll give you software switching.
