[Build Finished] Katana 刀 Water cooled Switch 810

Katana 刀

Hello to all those who took time out of your day to view my build log! This is my first ever build log, but my second pc. I decided a while back that my first pc, while by no means slow, wouldn't be able to help me to achieve my dream of making it into the top 100 on 3Dmark's cloudgate test. (only in the single GPU category... I am not made of money unfortunately) So I set out recently to create the best build, within reason, that would give me a chance!

THE SPECS: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Case: Switch 810
CPU: i7 4930k
Motherboard: Asus Rampage iv Extreme
GPU: K|NGP|N 780 ti
SSD: Seagate 600 Series 240GB
Ram: 16gb G-skill Sniper series 2133MHz
PSU: 750W Silverstone Strider Gold S (edit it's the 850 watt version)
Water cooling Loop: To be announced
Cooler: Corsair Hyper 212 (for teh time being)
A little behind the name
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
So why Katana you may be asking yourself... (you may not be as well.. I am just a person NOT a mind reader) Regardless I have had this weird Japan fetish that has resulted in lots of strange things such as watching way to much anime and insisting on traveling to Japan. (I WILL GO) So what better to name My build then Katana? Especially as I haven't exactly decided if I am going to paint it or what I will paint it. I do know the color scheme will be red and white. I am looking into white tubing at the moment for my loop, and the mother board and ram are red. Lots of polls at the end. Or maybe just one... I am making this up as I go... There is a first for everything...
Now for pictures of what I have! biggrin.gif
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
My last pc and specs for those who care Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Specs:
Cpu: i7 4770k 4.7ghz
Motherboard: Biostar Hi-Fi z87x
Gpu: EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Dual FTW w/ EVGA ACX Cooler
SSD: Seagate 600 series 240gb
Psu: Corsair CX750m
Case: Corsair 500r
Cooler: Corsair H100i (note I hated this because of glitchy software, which was the only reason I chose it over the h110)

NOW FOR THE MAIN EVENT!

My Switch 810 Naked....ish... Like the look of the UV light.

The parts on my "test bench"

Just a note I have already painted the psu to match the case, however I may be building a shroud to cover it...

One paint job I was considering.

Not sure I could get it that clean however... May just paint 刀 on the side... Also any suggestions on what I should do for mounting my ssd? I am fairly opposed to the drive bays, but will likely be leaving the 5.25" bays that are fastened more permanently. Also has anyone jammed a 420 rad in one of these and if so how did it go?

Ok so time for update #1! Super excited because I was able to mount everything up in my case well! LOTS of room. I mean goodness I was afraid I would be stretching it a bit, but its looking like I could ad as many rads as I would like.

Pics of everything mounted Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Psu in I really like the way it fits in really well.

Everything in!

With a bit of cable management. I will note I really don't like silverstone's cables. I figured out how they are able to make their psu's so cheaply. They make all their money selling sleeved cables. I sat for around 2 hours trying to pull apart the cables with no luck. I have used the proper tools, a heat gun, paperclips, and staples with no luck so far... Likely to buy their cables, because not only are they impossible to pull apart all of their cables aren't long enough as well. That said here is what I have.

Also taped up my side panel for paint?

Thats all for today! Looking into getting some acrylic sheeting for a psu shroud and maybe a few other things.

Thanks man! And I just checked out your rig and noticed you are running a loop nearly exactly like the one I am looking to build. What sort of temps are you reaching on that thing?

Update time people! I have started painting and so far I would say its going good overall. To be honest it could be going better, but I will not be dismayed! That and I am too far in to turn back /(-_-) Regardless! Picture time to demonstrate what I am talking about!

So I got this sticker sheet you can print on and used it as the template for the paint on my side panel... Regretfully I was way to excited and didn't get a pic of it all taped up.

Here you all can see all my nice work, after 2 coats of paint.

A few of the pci slot covers

Now for rant time... Apparently plastic has to be all special and such and require its own special paint and primer and all sorts of other expensive things in order to be painted.. Who knew? (not me) ... (I don't really paint often...) However I will let it dry sand it off, and start over.

This little guy faired well however!

More tomorrow hopefully. Likely I will only be finishing the side panel though till I am paid on friday. biggrin.gif

I hope so!I really wish the plastic was easier to paint on. The little usb/on off buttons may look a bit weird, because although the paint didn't really stick, its not coming off easily.

At full load with ~50% fan speed on the rads my gpus hit 48-49C and my cpu hits about 60C. With only one gpu they were about 10C lower. Considering how hot the 290s are normally I'm pretty happy with it.

Thats not bad at all. How were you monitoring temps? Inline sensors, or built in sensors? I think I want to get some inline sensors, or some sort of 5.25" monitoring panel but I'm not entirely sure.
