Budget Gaming PC - Page 5

^^^You guys gotta remember, those benchmarks were most likely done with an extremely powerful GPU (Ares II?! on the second one). Of course you are going to need every last ounce of performance out of your CPU to feed those beasts. OP's scenario, with up to a GTX 760 or R9 270X will not be limited by FX-4300s and i3-4130s to the extent you see above. In fact, given that the R9 270X and GTX 760 are pretty much squarely targeted at your average 1080p 60Hz gamer, I would say, with settings dialed in (not quite maxing detail on every game, and light on the anti-aliasing), you would get your requisite 30 fps at a minimum with at least a 40FPS average with both setups. Good enough for your average Joe, just maybe not for most of us here. biggrin.gif

Better CPUs are nice, but on a budget would you rather have an i3 bolted to an R9 270X/GTX 760 or an i5 bolted to a 7770/GTX 650? These 256-bit GPUs are the best cards I would match up with an FX-4300 or i3-4130 though before moving to at least an i5 or FX-6300/FX-8350.

Cutting out the case and hard drive (as long as it is not an ancient <8MB, 5400 RPM affair) should allow you to jump up to an FX-6300 with a better 970 board.
Saving ~$120 on the case and HDD, you can up your AMD to:

Gigabyte GA-970A-D3: http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=911577, $102.35
FX-6300: http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=1462290, $155.34

You would still have ~$50 in your pocket.

If you are going to overclock with that Gigabyte, be sure to put heatsinks on the VRM, else spend your extra $50 on this:

Asus M5A97 R2.0: http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=1360202, $147.37

These upgrades would pair really nice with the R9 270X or GTX 760 posted earlier, provided you get that 550W PSU with two PCI-e power connectors.

That same ~$120 can be spent on the Intel system to get you a better CPU:

i5-4440: http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=2106873, $243.52

You would still have ~$35 in your pocket. That is not going to get you a much better board, but the i5 will work fine in just about anything.

Even at the same speeds, (100Hz off) the 8350 will beat the 6350 a lot of the time.

Your charts prove my point exactly, Metro LL and Hitman are practically the same for the 8350 and 6350 and you have a 9 frame difference b/n the 8350 and 6300 in the BF4 charts
(Bear in mind our Focus is only on 1920 x1080) add 500mhz to the 6300 and watch the gap shrink to 1 frame or less

Hitman has an 8.4fps difference, Metro LL 22.1 at 1280 x 1080, at 1080p with SSAA/Ultra both appear GPU limited. Don't get me wrong, the FX 6300 is one of the best budget gaming CPU's out there, beating the i3's with 500MHz OC and usually having more OC'ing potential..

Anything less than 60fps on my PC annoys me, I can live with it in Skyrim, but not multiplayer fps.

At 1920 by 1080 the difference is only 2 measly frames

Yeah, that's mostly our demographic here at Overclockers. Just being able to play the game at a 30fps minimum, ~40 fps average satisfies your average consumer. They don't care about the numbers, just what is in front of them on the screen. We are harder to please. SLI Titan Zs at 4K and we would still complain! biggrin.gif
