RADIATOR SELECTION HELP

Thread Starter
I am replacing my SWIFTECH MCR320 radiator with a 240 to get back drive bay space in my 600T and will retain the 200 PHOBYA RAD

I bought a XSPC AX240 at Microcenter but after looking at it have decided it may be too thin the 320 was thin but the XSPC core is thinner.

So I am considering the ones linked below

http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=59_457_667_1075&products_id=32764

http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=59_457_667_200&products_id=3892

http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=59_457_667_668&products_id=26776

tell me what you would do and why.

the ax rads dont perform bad at all. its just too expensive. it is more about looks than performance when it comes to price.

yes i would, i run a 360 and 240 xt45

no. tight fin spacing meaning it needs high rpm fans or slightly lower rpm but needing both push and pull

dunno. 1 review says it kicks butt at high rpm fan speeds

i would use it. its a good rad. but i wouldnt buy it. the xt45 is cheaper, has screw guards, has multiple ports.

I agree with all of this. I would lean toward the XT45 if you do end up replacing the AX240.

I don't know if it's possible in that case since I'm not to familiar with it, but you may be able to fit a 280mm radiator in the top and get a little more cooling potential than a 240mm.

I moded the top plastic on the 600 T case to fit the 360 but it goes all the was into the drive bays.
A 280 would not fit for sure.
I can use a 240 easy but the thickness is limited to 42mm max so my idea of the 45mm is out.

At what speed do you run you fans?
And you have push fans? Pull fans ? Or both push/pull?

Running in Push with areocool sharks with the LNA 7 volt adaptor.
I do not have room to do Push Pull on this location.
I will be getting new fans when the new 240 is purchaced

I would look at the ST30 then. Great performance across all fan speeds. For fans, I suggest Gentle Typhoon AP-15 They have the best noise:performance ratio out there and will be nearly silent at 7V. If you can't find AP-15s at a reasonable price, AP-14 would be fine too, and you may not need the 7V adapter with them since they run full speed at 1450RPM and will be a bit more quiet than AP-15s at full speed.

I second that motion on the ST30 rad.
For fans, I like fast ones like the AP-45's I own. 2150 rpm but a Lamptron controller can silence them at 35% speed. And it's nice to know the speed is there if I need it.

Great ideas. Is the gentle typhoon better than the noctua NF-F series for $21 each shipped.
Would the ST 30 240 get close to the mcr 320 in performance
post #10 of 16
The ST30 would outperform the MCR320.
Have a look here for comparisson:
http://martinsliquidlab.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/alphacoolst30-th2.png
In fact, the ST30 is king below 1000 rpm and still a great performer above 1000 rpm too.
Too often guys think that rad thickness equal better cooling. But at lower speeds, thin rads with liw fin count perform better. At low speeds the fans just struggle too much to push the air through thick and high fin count rads.

And Gentle Typhoons would perform better than any other fans out there. It's got the best noise to static pressure ration.

You can get the AP-14 here for 15$ plus shipping.:

I am sure if you shop around, you can get the AP-15 for a similar price.
