Well, I've got a processor that's quite highly overclocked and those cards are at the end of their lives anyways, so I'm gonna either be running a pair of 770s or the equivalent 800s. Besides, I enjoy having a lot of headroom, and electricity isn't exactly something I'm short on either

If you push an FX-9590 to the limits (6ghz+ OCing), it's VERY possible to have ~500+W of dissipation between the CPU and VRMs.

High end NV GPUs with custom BIOS can be 350-500W with water cooling.

An 850W PSU starts to look severely inadequate for a multi-GPU PD rig that has extreme OCing as the primary goal. I would be entertaining the idea of a 1.3-1.5KW PSU if this is a "toy" OCing/benching rig. This nonsense about trying to use a smaller PSU to improve efficiency cropping up in every corner of OCN is really bizarre. Why it becomes a front stage part of the discussion in threads about monster machines is beyond my understanding. You come to talk about a fun crazy overclocking rig and you'd think we're at a burlap sack worshiping UN climate convention or something.

Dude. Enough of that already. Stop with that bashing. You aren't encouraging people to really listen to you when you badmouth others. Just state your facts and allow the person to take them as you have delivered them. Ok? This is getting old!

Maybe you should stop trying to tell everyone in the universe to use a smaller PSU when it's an irrelevant issue within the context of most of the places you're suggesting it, it's getting old. I think some people might want to spend less time justifying their big PSUs to the likes of your questioning, prodding, and poking about PSU selection. Most of the threads you participate in you have 10+ posts of nothing but prodding someone about their PSU. I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but the efficiency gains from proper PSU sizing are going to fall on deaf ears in a crowd of people who would be happy to find a way to run their computers on nitro methane and LN2!!!

7ghz is more than doable with that chip. It'll run hotter than Scarlett Johanssons exposed breasts on a hot summer day in Mexico but its definitely feasible given appropriate heat dissipation through a custom loop (probs gonna need 2 360mm rads at a minimum) And as for the PSU, I'm using what I have, and am gonna use an ax860i?k 1200i, which is actually serious overkill, but leaves me enough headroom to expand MUCH further, in ways of going 3x sli and upping my HDD count
