Both the Y40 and Y50 will be available in May 2014, starting at $999. This is a welcome update to one of my favorite laptops from last year, but my only concern is that the base models leave out the add-on Nvidia or AMD graphics, which is frankly the entire point of these gaming crossovers.

Guess i was wrong, thought it would be cheaper like the other ones.

That is an MSI whitebook that could be purchased from any number of vendors, XoticPCs own line, or can be purchased with MSI Branding. If you're going to go with a custom boutique notebook I would look into clevo based stuff over MSI. They also only have the 700 series, Xotic among others has the new 800 series GPUs. Granted most are just clock speed bumps and new labels, but at least you're getting the most current stuff.

Xoticpc Sells MSI, MSI Whitebooks (xoticpc force) and Sagers (which are clevo units) as well as asus, alienware, etc...

Mythlogic also sells their own branded clevo notebooks with heavy customization, and their is a rep here on the forums for them. I have considered them in the past but never ordered from them.

Magus, Take a look around on XoticPCs website especially at their sagers. Or head over to mythlogic to look around too. If you're set on a 17" in that price range, I would look at the NP7378. It will be thicker than the MSI unit you're looking at, but it has the newer GTX 860m Maxwell GPU.

Edit** the lenovo is a good bargain with the dual GPU option, but I just get nervous with dual GPUs in a 15" chassis. I know The Receiver here ON OCN has one with a good experience, but I've also heard of throttling and high temps while gaming. If you want a 17" this won't meet you needs as Lenovo doesn't make a 17" version of the Y500 series.

All points are true here, though I would only look at lenovo when they have the coupon codes active on their website. Otherwise the value is pretty poor. I think XoticPC also is a reseller of the y510p SLI model and usually has a decent price on them.

As far as I know (and the community that follows it) there isnt a way around throttling due to temperatures, if your ambients are high then I would either look at something more efficient or prop the back end of the laptop for better ventilation.

Well damn. All this research has made me look for the Clevo W230SS with a GTX860M and QHD (3200x1800) screen. I don't see a place in the US that has both options available now, even as a pre-order though...

Also, anybody know if the NP9377-S / Clevo P377SM-A supports 3D Vision with its 120Hz screen upgrade option? I don't see mention of it anywhere... (and yes, not exactly light/thin like the other laptops but something I may consider if it can do 3D).
