I see where you all you guys are coming from, but I just don't think it's that simple. My point of view is that in the end you view one moving graphical experience. I don't use my 780 Ti to view still shots. I use it to generate artistic animated images made out of polygons with style and effects. But some are just arguing the polygons. Essentially missing the argument of the forest for the trees. But yes, dial it in, freeze a frame, and yes some of you are right, that "tree" does't look that good. Same with movies. Freeze a frame and it can look like ass. But in motion the CGI all comes together with the movement and art style to create a nice looking moving image. Posting still shots isn't enough to capture that. I might as well eat a bowl of croutons without the salad. I'm not getting the big picture that way. Now I am playing Bioshock Infinite now. In some ways it is better than The Last of Us. Color, whimsy, perhaps sheer polygons, whatever, but the facial animation is not up to The Last of Us. That impacts the graphics for me. It's good, just not better. The animation is not as good or believable. The mood isn't as potent from the visuals. But its shiny, sure. More shiny than the Last of Us perhaps. Yet the end result is I was more impressed with the graphics in The Last of Us. Naughty Dog is smart. They focus limited resources on what matters. Sure the shadows on the Last of Us car is crap. The windows are not clear but a texture. But the characters eyes dance with realistic emotions, smooth animation, and they (the characters) look good. When they get wet the cloths show it. Guess where my eyes are most of the time. If all you have is best graphics, you have to consider every aspect. Now if you separate it and have 5 awards, sure, other games will win, but they wont be the ones you want to look at per say. They can push the textures at the expense of animation. But it's not worth it.

And I'm not even saying The Last of Us has the best graphics, just saying you can't love graphics in slices and be accurate about it.

I'm definitely not blown away by the ps3 version of The Last of Us. It's good enough for consoles, but just no comparison to any of the modern pc games.

Very well said, my thoughts exactly and its what I have been trying to say all along.

That's all cool. So it that other guys opinions. I can agree to disagree. I was just defending art in video games. People discount the art in things more than they should.

That all said, I am stoked about how much better The Last of Us can look on PS4.

You're right, I broke out my analogy finder plugin on Google Ultron and sniffed it out.

However, I pointed out the improper use of an analogy. Is there something wrong with that? Just because I'm not racing to support your opinion, or fighting against the others in this thread does not mean you need to get upset about it. You're arguing semantics and opinions on something the thread isn't about.

You are arguing politics.

And I'm not even saying The Last of Us has the best graphics, just saying you can't love graphics in slices and be accurate about it.

But when you say we don't see the forest for the trees isn't it rather you who are looking at the tree and not the forest (trees being characters and the forest being well everything). On PS3 games developers blow a huge chuck of the consoles power on the main characters and that comes out of the environment detail. Now look at something like Tomb Raider, BioShock infinite or Crysis 3. The characters are good but the environment gets it fair share of detail too. I agree that TLoU has superb animation and IMO even fair to say its better then anything on the PC.

But its just one part and like you said every aspect should be considered and in every other graphical aspect aside form animation TLoU is inferior to PC games like TB and BS infinite. So if someone wan't to give TLoU the "best animation work" award I can get behind that. Like I said I have no problem giving credit where credit is due.

And I'm with you 100% when you say a freeze frame can capture what an game really looks like. Even videos on youtube fall short duet to the horrible compression.

Wait... is this the AGE OF ULTRON (google)? lol. Stoked for that too. Captain America Winter Soldier. Sweet times for superhero fans. I remember the The Flash TV show thinking this was the best it could get.
