[IGN] Last of Us is coming to Playstation 4 - Page 8

Beyond: Two Souls can't hold a candle to TLOU. Sorry. The gameplay just isn't there. The hyped story is fragmented.

No mater how you slice it The last of us and other PS3 titles are behind their PC counter parts in terms of tech and no amount of good art can fully compensate for that. As such I think its bull crap to award such a game any award about best graphics (unless specifically limited to console titles).

Like it has been said so man times. The last of us looks good for an PS3 game. That's it. Its so very tiring how some people go on and on about how incredible TLoU visuals are when they really aren't that special compared to what's been out on PC's.

I thought it would be obvious people who think it has amazing graphics think it looks amazing for a PS3 game.

So you think its fair to compare pre-rendered cuts-scenes on the PS3 to something that runs in real time on the PC because that's not comparing apples and oranges at all rolleyes.gif

Defenders of PS3 graphics do this all the time.

This is not what the last of us looks like when running real time.

This is what the game looks like in-game

You don't see PC gamers claiming Deus Ex: Human revolution looks like this

When it actually looks like this.

You can disagree and thats fine because while the flaws you mentioned are certainly there its no where near as noticiable on a live screen as it is in still shots. I own a high end gaming rig with a R9 290X so while im used to pretty much a perfect picture I was still able to play The Last of US while being impressed by the game visually, nothing looks that jaggie or low res unless I am sitting right on top of my 50" wide screen TV. If im sitting back at a distance like im supposed too then the game looks great and in some places is flat out beautiful.

Also I am well aware that the ingame pre rendered scenes look a good bit better than the actual game play.

Graphics are not simply about which game has the highest fidelity textures, lighting, and most cutting edge tech. It's about atmosphere, art direction, and being able to immerse you in the setting. BF4 and Crysis 3 have incredible graphics on Ultra, but they did not even get close to pulling me into the game like the Last of Us.

Well said, Crysis 3 looks incredible on my rig but its no where near as good of a game as the Last of US.

Im about 6-8hrs into Beyond Two Souls and its a really good game, it is yet another game which has kept me glued to the TV in a way that most PC games have been unable to do. I simply borrowed my buddies PS3 to beat all the good exclusives and its been fun catching up on them all from drakes uncharted series, Heavy Rain, Last of US, GOW3 which itself looks incredible and a few others.

I think my main issue with Beyond is with the distilled control scheme. It's not for everyone. You don't really do much. You can get 95% of the game experience by watching it on YouTube.

Games like Heavy Rain and Beyond as you said are not for everyone but I would disagree that the same experience can come from watching it on youtube. There are moments you must make a decision based off of several different possibilities which can alter the game story itself and for me that is a pretty exciting aspect of the game. Also in Beyond there are several missions where you run around with the girl hiding behind objects and assassinating soldiers who are unaware of your presence which is very reminiscence to a splinter cell type of game play.

But would you say that it's more movie than game? I'm curious as I've never played it. Heavy Rain was no fun for me so when the mixed Beyond reviews came in that was it for me.

If you didnt like heavy rain then you may or may not like beyond. I would not say that either is more of a movie than a game "especially beyond", someone who has never played them may get that impression but there is simply too much you do with the controller for it to be considered a movie instead of a game. Multiple decisions to make based off certain events and the control of the character itself, these games have a way of making you feel like you actually are the character in the game which is a feat that a lot of modern games are missing. The connection between the girl in beyond and myself is stronger than it was with the characters in Heavy Rain because there is a little more freedom with Beyond as far as the game play is concerned.

The so so reviews did keep me from buying Beyond new because for one thing I really never pay $59.99 for any game as I wait to get them on sale, I picked up a pre owned copy of beyond for $32.00 a couple of days ago and its been one of the best game purchases I have made in a while, im loving the game and cannot wait to give it another play through making different choices the 2nd time through.

An exclusive sneak peek at The Last of Us for Windows PC plus insider details on Survivor's World both slated for Q3 2014

Take it with a grain of salt...

EDIT: Don't bother trying to download the demo.

Actually, the chances of it happening are looking much better than I thought.
