7970/280x cf question

Hey,

So I run 7970 (non-Ghz) cf atm (1 golden, 1 frustratingly crap mad.gif), but looking for a lil refurbishing/improvements (watercooling). But one thing I'd really like to fix is the stupid tearing on the DVI-D monitor (triple monitor rig 2xDP 1xDVI-D). The only solution out there is to get a 4xDP card, i.e. a matrix platinum or equiv. My gf is also looking for a new gaming rig so considering buying a 280x matrix platinum to replace the crap 7970 and giving it to her (still much better than she was considering) and get rid of my tearing issue.

So my question, I've seen that you can crossfire 7970 with 280x, but read that you have to have the 7970 in the primary card (defeats the purpose). However, I've also seen that you can flash the 7970 with a 280x BIOS. So basically, would this allow me to cf with the matrix 280x as primary? I'm really curious as this would solve most if not all of my issues.

Cheers,
Severe

edit: tldr: Can you use a 280x as primary card if you flash the 7970 with 280x BIOS?

looks like this beautiful contraption makes it a non-issue, wish I knew it existed months ago.

I am CF'ing 280x/7970 with 280x as the primary card. No issues to report so far.

Edit: Both are Gigabyte brand.
