How to sell my rig

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I recently built myself a new rig and I haven't even got the chance to use it because I've been very busy. Now something has come up and I'll be away for a few months, will be moving out and go abroad for an internship. I don't want my new build to rot in a storage room and I could use the money to get myself an ultrabook. I'll build something else when I come back and settled again.
The thing is, I don't have enough Rep's to open a thread in the marketplace. Are there people who are like middleman and take a small commission to sell or help sell stuff on the marketplace or is there another website in which I can try my luck?
The rig is my Signature Rig.
Thank you in advance thumb.gif

Isn't it actually harder to sell over there because people who buy these sorts of thing actually check for the forums and Ebay takes a big cut doesn't it? I want to try to lose as low amount as possible in the process of selling.

I have no idea. Read the FAQs on eBay or the Help section or whatever they have. Besides, what are your other options? Craig's List?

I would say selling on different computer related forums will be the best because it is free to advertise and also people know what they want to buy and pay. I have been selling all my old hardware thru different computer forums (I live in sweden). Sure you might get "less" for your parts but mostly you will get realistic prices. I dont know how many sites you are member on, men try to sell there and also try to be frank and clear about the shipping costs, etc.

You're going to end up taking a huge bath on the resale of your signature system. You know what they say, you lose 20% as soon as you drive it off the lot - and computers are no different than cars.

It's a huge pain in the rear, but you will get the most return by parting it out and selling the depreciating parts on eBay. Keep the parts that won't depreciate over time (keyboard, mouse, radiators, pumps, etc.) and sell the high value high depreciation parts like CPU, GPU, GPU water blocks, etc. on eBay.

As for selling the system as a whole, your best bet is Craigslist or eBay. eBay is going to take 10% of your sale price as commission, and PayPal will take another 2.5-2.9% off. But honestly, the nearly 13% you're paying into eBay/PayPal to reach hundreds of targeted potential customers isn't a bad deal vs. local advertising and the hassle of dealing with idiots on Craigslist.

Best option - ship it to wherever you're going for your internship. UPS can probably get it there for a few hundred bucks.

Or, pack it with you very carefully. Ask a computer store if they have any boxes that used to contain the case that you have. See if you can get the box and the Styrofoam. Stick it in there, tape that sucker up, and take it with. Or, just let it sit. It will still be a formidable force when you come back.

Try your local paper first. The cost of shipping is what will turn a lot of people away. The PSU alone is a lot of weight. Your rig is not even out of date. Putting it in a dry storage spot won't hurt it at all once you take care of flushing the water cooling out and letting it dry. It sounds like you won't really be gone long enough for it to be an issue. Set it up to mine some crypto currency and control it remotely from where you will be.

Sell components each will give you money faster because few people want to buy a whole system. I mean be happy if you can get 50% of the price on each component. I just sold a 7970 with no cooler for 1000 SEK, it cost (3100 SEK new), EK7979 waterblock for 330 SEK (cost 750 SEK new) and stock cooler for 20 SEK. And even with those prices it took like one week or more untill people got intrested despite such low prices. Problem with selling a whole system is the shipping cost. Selling each component is better because shipping cost less and more people will be intrested because they might only want to buy a certan component in your system. From my experiance, selling whole systems rarely happens, 8/10 times when people advertise whole systems people are asking to buy only some components because that is all they need.

I would start making a few ads on computerforums where you live, in you live in US start by making a ad here in the sell section. But its a shame you are selling that nice computer, specially the watercooling stuff, which probably will be even more expensive in the future frown.giffrown.gif.
