how's progress been?

Hey guys as I said in my intro thread I use to do fah back in the days when intel core 2 quad was relatively new and the software for fah was just starting to experiment with smp. (which was a few to several years ago before they had an actual GUI and not console) Now first let me say that I sympathize with you passionate folders. I was once one of you guys because my grandmother died of cancer. I don't remember exactly why I stopped but I haven't started again because I believe that running that program as much as I did (24/7 or close to that) caused the main drive in my old machine to die. Regardless I was curious if you guys could tell me how progress has been.

I'm surprised that after all the cpu and gpu power you guys and other overclockers have given the project that they still have calculations to be solved.

Thanks so much. That has convinced me to startup again but I won't anywhere near as intensive as you guys. (refer to sig info as to why + I ain't gonna do it 24/7 this time nor will I let it full load a lot) And yes I'm folding for OCN smile.gif but without passkey because I couldn't get it to email it to me. (email service didn't work)

Did you know that a different email account will get a different passkey?

Makes sense but probably wouldn't matter since it doesn't seem to be working.

Edit: Just had a Eureka moment and found my passkey in spam folder. Passkey has been applied for the bonus credit. smile.gif

With as much as the project has accomplished, they've probably only scratched the surface of the potential research out there. A quick google search suggests there's around 50,000 different types of proteins in the human body. Obviously many of those are probably not of much interest to study, but there still must be hundreds, if not thousands, that are worth investigating. Even with computer advances, FAH projects still take at least several months, if not years, to complete, and those advances allow them to study ever-larger proteins that would have taken too long in years past.

I think the video KevDog linked said they've already figured out 80,000 proteins because of the project but ya I get your point.
